I did that for a while, but got tired of people honking at me when I got out to lock the hubs.

Ok, I think part of the problem is you thinking other cars speeding is your problem.
Who cares if you pull out and a car comes speeding around the corner and has to slam on their brakes?
I sure as hell don’t care, don’t drive wrecklessly and you won’t have to do that.

It does seem this truck is a major fail on Toyota. I think the grille and body are ugly AF and the powertrain is miserable.
The interior is bad ass though.

Unfortunately, I own a 2nd Gen, I probably will not buy a Toyota again. The 2nd Gen is OK but its not the quality I expect in a vehicle I paid $29k for. I wouldn’t pay $29k for a brand new Tacoma now.
These things cost way too much and have way too many problems.

I love the 4Runner. My dad has a TRD Pro thats the bees knees. I just will not pay the price. But the 4Runner is all I can see myself in from Toyota moving forward.

The 3rd Gens have really turned me off their trucks. I’m sure their cheap cars are great but not in the market for those.

    Stay safe.

Coming from someone with a 12 second car and actually knows what fast is, idk what’s wrong with some of yalls 3rd gens..mine is plenty responsive and takes off quick. And that’s with an auto with the ECT off. It does however have a TRD intake and exhaust as well as the TSB update, so maybe that’s the difference. Either way, I’m tired of seeing people say that MY truck is broken when it’s actually just THEIR truck that’s broken. Sorry you got a defective lemon, take it up with your stealership.

Same here. I've not had any issues with it bogging down, when I needed the power it was there (even when doing a U-Turn). I thought I might have some issues with the new wheel/tire setup but I haven't noticed anything. To some extent it could be my driving style matches well with the truck or they did all the necessary updates to the truck prior to me purchasing it. Sure it has a few quirks but what vehicle doesn't.

I hate to say it but if you are experiencing a lack of power then you either fix the vehicle (dealer, OVtune, or other) or adapt your style of driving so you reduce the risk of having to mash the pedal. If this were happening to my truck I would get it fixed until I had confidence it would perform well before jumping out into speeding traffic.

Mine just revs up to like 6k and about 2 years later it slams into gear. So I just wait until till I have about 2 football fields to get into 40+ mph roads.

I like quirky automatic transmissions. Does anybody remember the 4-speed GM Roto-Hydramatic a.k.a. "Slim Jim" sans bell housing and the neck snapping/lurching shifts into 2nd gear?

I say this with the utmost respekt, sir.

You are absolutely delusional and glad that Toyota will be getting rid of you.

    Good bye!

So mine's an M/T and I don't have this issue. However when I used to drive an automatic, if there was something about an area, a turn, or a maneuver that it would be advantageous to hold a lower gear for longer, then I would just bump the shifter down to first. I'm fairly certain you can do that on these trucks, no? The truck may know itself and gas mileage better, but you know the road and traffic conditions way better.

@OP - maybe drop to first for that specific turn? Then automatic for literally everything else? I know it's not a solution...but might make you feel more safe until you can get it to a dealership for a reflash or something.

    Yea. That’s pretty ridiculous.

“Fast” for a street car, would be 10s, IMO. And 10’s is just barely making the cut for fast nowadays.

Navy aviation master electrician here, qualified in fly-by-wire systems on F/A-18, H-53, and H-60. Self-qualified on the massively complex Toyota Tacoma drive-by-wire throttle. Pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. But that's what happens when people like you make an assumption, you make an ass out of u and mption. Take your own advice... it's okay to be wrong. Sometimes people are wrong because they're ignorant to how things actually work, and that's okay. Sometimes people are wrong because they are stupid, and that's not okay. Don't be the latter. You're better than that... you all are; I'm sure of it. But alas, I fear that my poor, sensitive, snowflake skin can no longer tolerate all of the sick burns and witty shenanigans from the TW internet trolls found within this thread. I must retreat to the comfort of my safe space. Have a blessed day.
