I just installed a set of Goodyear Ultra Terrain SL 265/70R16s on my 2013 Gen 2 Taco SR5 2WD to replace my 60,000 mile FS Destination ATs (that still had tread left) of the same size. 5K so far with 80% HWY 20% Trail/ Gravel.
    Comparison to Destinations:
First: Discount Tire is an out of the park Home Run. The folks there make Firestone look like rookies. Bottom line is they have a money back satisfaction guarantee.Their customer service was awesome to say the least.

Traction on soft TX sand and mud: no comparison, UTs way outperform the Firestone AT,s especially that I am 2WD. I will hopefully try some CO snow this winter. A recent trip through my back 40 (more like 6) acres after heavy rains showed off their capabilities, deep mud I would never have attempted with the Destination ATs was no problemo for the UTs, even with 2WD.
Fit No worries, no rubbing, look cool.
Highway performance: UTs surprised me, almost same (whine) noise on grooved concrete Interstate as the previous FS and seem more stable on wet roads and high wind. They seem softer and way more “grippy” as mentioned above, so will see how many miles I get out of them...
Gas Mileage: I know it’s a big point of contention on this (and every other) site. I keep a close tab on mileage as I drive an hour 1 way to work on Interstate with bit of dirt and gravel along the way. That said I now have 106,000 miles on the V6 with the only mods being K&N filter, (charcoal pre-filter removal) and hotter Denso Platinum Plugs. The GY UTs are my third set of tires. Since I put the 265/70R16 UTs on I have consistently seen 19.4-20.7mpg average between 75-80 mph freeway and town driving. I have averaged 20.9 (high 23.8 hwy OEM, low 19.0 UTs town) in all types of driving between the OEM 245/75R16, FS Dest 265/70’s and UTs.
Go Big? Several friends with full size (expensive F250/Ram TD) trucks with turbo diesels here in TX brag they get 25-30 pulling a horse trailer. I smile and say “Sure, but you can’t drive up a 2 rut firebreak, buy regular gas ($2.05 vs $2.45 for diesel) fit under a parking garage restrictor and you pay higher insurance, need 2 normal car parking slots and take half of TX to do a U turn. “ Besides, Tacoma’s are cool...and I could buy 3 of them for the cost of a King Ranch F250 4x4 TD!
    Nuff said...
Ultra Terrain UTs? To quote Forrest, I like them, I like them a lot...

Hey all.. been doing a bit of tire research and I’m pretty sold on these. They have four (4) of the SL’s in 265/75/16 at my local DT.

Had a couple quick questions. Pretty new to going up a tire size.

    - I have an ‘18 TRDOR with stock suspension, stock wheels and oem mudflaps. Has anybody experienced any rubbing with a similar setup? I don’t mind if I have to remove the mudflaps, fwiw.

    - Would it be wise to pick up a spare since it’s a different size? Like I said, right now they only have 4 in stock. I’m super close to 2/32 and in Montana right now (from Maine), so kinda need to get something. I figure I could get the spare, if needed, a week later.

I think this would be a great tire for my style which is about 70% highway/town, 20% gravel/dirt, 10% hitting some fun trails/off-road. Love the look, love the price, love the snow mountain rating. Looking to pick them up tomorrow. Oh, also, do they also usually get mounted the same day?

As always, appreciate any and all help. Thanks.

I went with 5 but I'm running 285/70r17 and didn't want to deal with the offset. I have DT doing a 5 tire rotation since I got them 13k+ miles ago. I have similar driving surfaces but am in VA where snow isn't as much or real common problem.

You should not have any rubbing. I'm anal would get a spare in that size. You could save a few bucks maybe and get a cheaper tire in that size for the spare.

I haven't had a chance to read through the thread. I had duratracs before and swore I'd never go down that road again. Super loud, vibrations like crazy, couldn't balance. What's the consensus in this thread. Are these better in that regard? I'd be looking at 265/75/16 in SL, so I imagine the weight wouldn't be too much more than the stock tires on my 18 right now.

Unfortunately I now have proof of themeager side walls for the Goodyear Ultra Terrains. Still happy with my choiceoverall, I love these tires. As you can seethe puncture got between my side lugs. Luckily I had the guarantee so I justthrew on my stock spare and got a brand new UT from discount tire

Do you know how that happened? Was it on the regular roads?

Not really it was on the inner side wall rear driver’s side. Either someone shanked me or it was some screw or nail that finally worked itself free

Just purchased 265/75r16 SL for my 2017 TRD Offroad with stock suspension and wheels.

Initial thoughts after a road trip from NorCal to Socal.
    - Louder than stock Wrangler AT w/ Kevlar (understandable given the larger void in the tire tread and side lugs)
    - May have lost 1-2MPG. (I didn't really record avg MPG for the trip prior)
    - No rub anywhere with sizing up.
    - So far happy with the purchase

Thanks to this tread for helping me make the decision on these tires. They look good and I'm looking forward to testing them out in the mountains.

They way the sidewall is folded over so flat it appears the sidewalls are very thin. Was this an LT tire? It looks like when an SL tire goes flat.

New guy here, cruising the forum and found this thread. Figured I'd add my 2 cents..... Got my UTs (265/75-16 SL) about a year ago when a foot of snow was predicted. Unfortunately it hit all around us but left us high & dry. Only 5-6K miles on 'em so far. Smooth comfy ride, well balanced (no vibration), and only a slight hum. Handling / cornering is not their strong suit though -- gotta feed in more steering to get 'em to turn. (My previous tires were Michelin LTX A/Ts.... crisper handling). Overall, I am very happy with the UTs, especially since we got several inches of snow last week. We were out of town and our typical 1-hour return trip took more than 3 hours because of roads clogged with drivers that were not prepared. The UTs never slipped and their grip in snow was impressive. We live up a short, steep hill with very little chance to get momentum. The UTs carried our Tacoma up the hill without a hitch. Quite possibly some of the best tires I've ever had in snow (I'm 70 so I have had a few).

Just saw a Tundra with these tires. Had never heard of them. They looks similiar to the Falken WP AT3W but a bit more aggressive. My GY Wrangler Authorities are getting too loud for my liking. Never bought tires at Discount Tire Direct but may have to now. I had the Duratracs before and all 3 seem to be in the same category. These look a bit more refined though. Hmmm

You'll find UltraTerrains to be noticeably quieter than Duratracs. Just a low hum to UTs, nothing objectionable.

I think every traction tire I have owned gets louder as it wears down. That includes my old Michelin LTX ATs, and they are a very quiet tire.
Safe to say the UTs will also get louder as they wear. Not that many miles on mine yet so I can't give you a really good answer.
