They wanted you to let it burn?
Why did it have a fire extinguisher then?

Without actually saying those words, more or less yes. It was an older cat, but new enough to be a high track. It was actually an LGP/low ground pressure, they pretty much float on the nastiest wettest stuff where other models would sink due to their wide pads.

Msha requires fire extinguishers for operator evacuation in case of fire hindering the way to safety. Of all the machines nice see that burned a 5lb or even 10lb extinguisher isn't going to put it out unless you actually witness it ignite and can extinguish it before other fuels like hydraulic oil, ATF and diesel accelerate it beyond control.

That's what I assumed, they wanted a new one.

Don't know if you have had to repair a burned vehicle or machine, but it sucks and is never ending. The damage caused can be extensive not to mention the lingering smell for the operator if you ever get it running right again.

It actually used to be a county dozer at the county dump. It has a full fire suppression system on it, but it wasn't charged. When we got it from auction it was a mess and pulled all sorts of shit out from the belly pan, including a twin sized matress. The thing would wreak of garbage on a hot summer day. :puke:
