A coworker told me that he witnessed a local cop driving past a well-known local deli near our workplace the other day, and he observed a parked vehicle with illegally tinted windows (Oh, the humanity! #sarcasm). The owner of said vehicle had the misfortune of having just parked and was walking into the deli. The cop backed up, asked the owner if it was his car. The owner said yes, and the cop wrote him a ticket on the spot for the illegal tint. The guy wasn’t even driving, or in the car for that matter!

I’m sorry, but that was just BS in my opinion. I don’t think I would have been arrested, but I probably would have gotten a citation for disorderly conduct and/or disturbing the peace in addition to the window tint violation, and probably a mandatory court appearance. Why? Like I said, that is an absolute BS way to issue a citation and I probably would have been very vocal about my displeasure.

By law, Pennsylvania requires window tint on the the front windows to let at least 70% of light in. The darkest legal tint I could get at Shades of Gray in Trevose lets in approximately 74% of light. My window tint is technically illegal in New Jersey, but I don’t really give shit because I don’t live there.

I found out a few days ago that Gary Numan, the British singer perhaps best known for the hit song “Cars”, has Aspergers!

I found out about this from a newspaper article my mom showed me, I believe in The Wall Street Journal, and Numan was talking about how “Cars” was inspired by a road rage incident in the 1970s where he drove up onto the sidewalk to get away from a couple of hotheads in a van.

I can relate to Gary Numan not only because he has AS, but because I was in a road rage situation where I drove my Tacoma onto a sidewalk to get around a couple of belligerent construction workers who were blocking the road with their trucks. I never faced any legal consequences for what I did and apparently neither did Numan...

It's called personal responsibility. Something that seems in awful short supply. I can absolutely guarantee that he didn't "unknowingly" drive on a suspended license. Certified letters are sent. Both for the ticket and the suspension. Nobody's fault but his. Don't like it, contact your state representatives and get them to change the law so there is no serious repercussions for failing to pay a ticket or driving on a suspended license.

What happened is he moved into an apartment but never changed the address on his license, so the letters got sent to his mom’s house.

Another friend of mine got her license suspended for not having valid insurance. She had moved into her own apartment but her license had the address of a house her parents had sold several years earlier after divorcing.

It just so happened that her car suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure not longer afterwards and she couldn’t afford the repairs. She worked for an ambulance company and only found her license was suspended when her boss ran an annual record check. What sucks is that her license was suspended in November 2015, but she didn’t find out it was suspended until March 2016. Pennsylvania has this stupid law that you must actual mail your license to PennDOT so they can hold it for the duration of the suspension. In my opinion, expecting a desperate individual not to drive on a suspended license just because they don’t have the physical license is like expecting criminals to obey gun laws.

Needless to say, her ignorance of the law resulted in her having to wait until June 2016 to get her license back when she could have gotten it back in February 2016!

I would also like to point out that I myself have never lost my license for any reason in the nearly nine years I’ve had it. I’ve gotten a couple of tickets, but I fought them and got the charges drastically reduced so I wouldn’t get points on my license.

By the way, I am off-the-charts OCD about keeping my license and other documents up-to-date! PennDOT has a 15-day grace period for changing the address on a license after moving, and many of my friends end up waiting until their license expires to do this. The last time I moved, I changed my address within a week!

So he moved, never changed his address as required by law, letters got sent to moms house. Guess she never let he know he had mail, or he never visited.

Both examples are of individuals NOT following the law. Not changing address, not having insurance.........that whole ****ing personal responsibility thing. Not railing at you....

    Here’s another one...

I met an older man at a car show this past summer who has decided to stop seeing his eye doctor because he’s almost legally blind and he knows the doctor will file a petition to get his license yanked the next time he sees him...

    That genuinely scares me!

So, my truck may be taking its first trip South of the Mason-Dixon Line in about a decade!

Sometime before April, I am planning on driving to Myrtle Beach. I’ve got family in Myrtle Beach, including the uncle who owns the wheel repair business. The primary reason for driving instead of flying would be so my uncle can paint my stock wheels black.

I talked to my cousin (the one who’s a park ranger), and he wouldn’t mind a road trip. He lives in Norfolk, Virginia. The plan would be to take a side trip to Norfolk, spend the night, and then bring my cousin the rest of the way to Myrtle Beach. This will be after New Year’s, but before April 1st of next year. We would spend 5 to 7 days in Myrtle Beach, and then I would stop and drop off my cousin on the way back home.

Road tripping with my cousin in a 10-year old (more than likely 110K miles by then) Tacoma...

    Fun!

If the cop could see the license plate, then what’s illegal about it?!?!

I met a couple friends for dinner at the Buffalo Wild Wings like two miles from my house, and I almost took out a jaywalking deer less than a mile from home on the way back! As long as the airbags didn't deploy, I don't think it would have totaled my truck, but I think I took quite a bit of life off the brakes. When I got into a bit a of debate with my mom about the significance of hitting a deer. My insurance company considers a "deer strike" an act of god, and as such my rates would not go up even if I did total my truck hitting a deer. USAA is the best insurance company ever!

Wow, glad you didn't hit it! My ex-fiancé plowed into a deer out on the highway with that old Geo Tracker, it massed the front but the insurance company fixed it.
