You should probably add some Marvel Mystery Oil just to be safe. So your truck gets all the right nutrients.

What causes the oil to turn black from its original clear look?

You sir are a smart fellow, I owe you a cookie and yes you are correct. With the right more constant air to fuel 14.7:1 ratio, there is considerably less unburned energy going to the crankcase and a lot better engine performance in almost any type environment or weather.

Fuel injection has been around for decades here, and much longer in Europe because they pay much more for petrol than us, therefore we have been changing oil schedules same as carburetors for years until synthetic oils came along which really allow for better engine tolerances and longer life for both, oil and engine. A real game changer there.

This is and for the reasons you mention, why I now change my oil at 5K miles, instead of the 3k mile schedule I used before. What a relief!

    Have a cookie, cheers!

Synthetic oil is made just like crack:

    1. Take the base drug (crude oil).
    2. Add some ingredients.
    3. Cook the sh** out of it and BAM.
    4. One hit and you are hooked for life.

And you can never be sure it's a 100% synthetic just from the label :D

Not really, especially with all this dust in the air and short trips.

I bought my Tacoma because it is good for Mother Earth. My dealer said if I can keep the truck in Atkinson mode, with a very soft pedal application, I’m basically saving the planet with every mile driven.

That, and the 10k oil changes.

For what it’s worth, my Grandfather was a bearing salesman, and was invited to tour Toyota’s engine plant in Japan. He said every single engine is run up to full power, which allows them to catch problems that other makers miss by batch sampling.

don’t know if this applies to the USA engine plants
