Dealerships make next to nothing from vehicle sales. Their bread and butter is repairs. So yes they have an incentive to recommend unnecessary maintenance and repairs.

It's an easy install if you have the time. I did it on my '13 a few months ago and took all of about an hour. Otherwise, $350 sounds a little steep for a simple spark plug replacement.

Nah. They make good money selling cars. Used and new make up nearly half their profit. But I know what you are saying. They make good money, nearly half via their service and parts department. Who wants to buy a dealership!

I did mine this past summer. Wasnt too difficult. The wobble socket was great. 30, 60, 90k are pretty big services. Transfer case, both diffs, spark plugs, air and cabin filter, oil change. Good day over all. Take your time and save your self several hundred $. All of those a well within an average Joe's mechanical ability, especially with the well written tutorials on this site.
I printed them all out and put them in a binder in plastic sleeves. Easy reference and the pages dont get messed up if your hands are dirty.

Dealers make marginal money on new vehicles. However, they make big money on used vehicles and leases. Good dealerships just charge a decent mark-up on their mechanical stuff. There is overhead and cost to keeping a group of mechanics on staff...difference is, the good ones keep their mechanics longer. Hence...a buck forty for shop time.

Why does everyone think people should work for nothing....and no....I'm not a socialist...

A member on here made a great video (try searching for it) that walked me through the entire thing. Spent maybe $50 on plugs and tools, took me less than an hour. Very good stuff.

Nah, people should not work for nothing but they should stay realistic about their worth. When I see car painters charging 10 grand for painting a corvette, I have to tell him I don’t care if he is the best in the world, he thinks way too much about his self worth.

I dunno...I've seen some reeaaalllyyyy crappy jobs that cost people 2-3k. 10k may not be so unrealistic anymore. Assuming for that price its top shelf paint and equipment to go along w/ their talent.
