Nice truck. Unfortunately mine is the 3.0. Still sucks on gas mileage with 35's and won't get out of its own way. Works great in 4lo tho.

Oh the 3.0, its slow but very reliable engine.
Its not much quicker than that pushrod 4.0 haha.

I had the newer 4.0 with 3 timing chains, good power but damn, 3 chains.

The 3.0 made the 2.3 in my 89 look like it was stuck in reverse lol. A buddy had a 2.3 then got a 4.0 and thought he had died and went to heaven.

I bet. I had the 2.5 inline 4 manual with 119hp on my ‘98 Mazda, and going to a 3.5 V6 auto with 276hp is otherworldly in comparison, especially when winding the engine up to blow past chains of slower vehicles on, say, the I-395.

    https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/consumer-reports-finds-vehicle-redesigns-come-with-glitches

"In the survey of subscribers with more than 400,000 vehicles, Consumer Reports found that 45% of new or redesigned vehicles have below-average predicted reliability. The survey covered model years 2000 to 2019, and more than 300 models.

The magazine said a small group of new or redesigned vehicles had above-average reliability, defying the trend. Those included the new Ford Ranger midsize pickup and the redesigned Toyota Avalon large sedan."

The Ranger, which has been out just over a year, has above average reliability ratings...lol.

    What horse shit.

The 2.7 has been out a while (I know they use it in the Mustang, the Ranger version is detuned vs. the Mustang's version), and the 10 speed transmission is use in a number of Ford vehicles. As far as powertrains go, it's proven.

I could be wrong but 2.7 is in F150
2.3 is mustang Ranger Focus. There is talk about the 2.7 in the next Gen Mustang and Ranger but don’t think current. So not sure what the 2.7 has to do with the Ranger argument? Lol

The rub is when you integrate a whole bunch of parts proven elsewhere in a new combination. Integration issues can make all kinds of headaches, they aren't Legos.

It's good that it's reliable this year, but I'm gonna wait to judge a while longer.

    Proven by Ford standards maybe

Regardless, nobody should buy this thing. Ford shouldn't be rewarded for cobbling together a parts bin truck and slapping a Ranger label on it. The next generation will hopefully be much better.

You're 100% right, I had my numbers messed up, LOL The 2.3 is in the Mustang, as well. The 2.7 is in the F-150.

I'm not too keen on turbo charged engines, but it seems to be the wave of the future.

Yea I agree! Turbo and hybrid is our last stab at Gas engines. I also prefer Naturally aspirated but like you said they have come a good way with increasing reliability and boost.

Yeah, long term, I'm not sold that turbo engines can hold up to the rigors of truck duties (hauling, etc.) It just seems like more stuff that can go south.

Agreed. Even if they're 99% reliable, that's still less reliable than an engine that doesn't even have a turbo to fail.

Now this no one can disagree with. Except he who shall not be tagged lol!! Any mechanic on this planet will say turbo increases chances of failure and kills life expectancy. Every video of ford engineers and mechanics picking which engine they choose is 99% 5.0.
