So I noticed a tiny popped bubble on the hood of my new 19 Tacoma. It's not a road chip and it's not rust or anything like that. Is this normal? Should I try to get it fixed under warranty to avoid rust or repaint color match issues down the road? I am new to caring about paint and detailing in general so maybe I am just worrying about nothing? What say you all?

Take it to dealer and get it fixed under warranty. Problem solved. That's what warranties are for.

My dealer fixed paint behind my headlights that came off because of rubbing. New painted panels and new headlights for free under warranty.

Tried getting a picture but no dice in the dark. I cannot emphasize the word tiny enough.

Yes.. somehow managed to get swirl marks in the clear coat. It's been too cold to put the ceramic coating on unfortunately. As a bonus question will I need to get those very light swirl marks out before putting ceramic coating on?

I don't know if leaving it be will be more durable than having it repainted. And if it does get worse in a few years then matching the fade on the paint will be annoying. Sigh. Choices choices... If only they painted it right to begin with...

I had the same thing next to my gas cap, I went back to the dealer and had several cosmetic complaints. They fixed everything. Go to the dealer.

You don't have to polish before applying a coating it's just highly recommended. You'll fix the minor swirls and you'll also remove any protection or in the case of an older vehicle the road film that washing wont remove. Mainly to make whatever protection you're applying to bond to.

We will see what the dealership says... Unfortunately for them I am borderline clinical in my tenacious obsessiveness.

100% need to correct the paint and polish out swirls prior to ceramic coating.
Also if you closely examine every square inch of your truck I bet you’ll find more of those pin bubbles.

Hmmm does that mean pin bubbles are very common? Not sure what to make of the "you probably have more" comment...

It’s possible it doesn’t expose the raw metal underneath. In that case, I’d be hesitant to “repair” it (and possibly end up with a problem that’s even more annoying than what you started with).

I’d rub the area with some ScratchX (no “focused” finger tip pressure), polish the hood with a DA polisher, make sure the spot is smooth (no raised “edges”), and then use Dr. Colorchip to fill the spot in.
