This fella used to show up and bat my cameras around the trees. Pissed me off. I was after a good deer and every time I would start to get good pics of it this curious little ass would come knock them around the side of the tree he never traveled on.

Just a quick shout out to Covert cameras... When I had both my cams get mauled by crazy ass bears they actually fixed them for free. Those bears can be little assholes to cameras. LOL! Also I got some screw in tree mounts to make them not as close or noticeable to them. I know they can climb, but they are less likely to see them if they are above eye level and more discrete.

I have something similar to these which are cheap and you can screw them any way you want to for different angles and stuff.

I will have to check that out. I haven't had any issues at the new place. At my old place they wreaked havoc on my shit. Haha

My problem is that the number of bears is rising so anytime you put corn or stuff like that they would take over the area. They were sleeping in the pile of corn in one pic a few years ago. HAHAHA! That time I ran into the mom and cubs was definitely not fun though!

A guy that comes in our store shot this bear last year or year before. Grant is 6'3". He said he and his son were in a ground blind and his son saw it 10 yards behind them and started shaking.

    https://www.carolinasportsman.com/h...r-kills-huge-bruin-on-thanksgiving-afternoon/

Fast forward to this year and he said he has another bear in the area and he has to drop off and pick his kids up from where they hunt because they don't want to walk.

I had a black bear circle my tree a few times once. Scared the shit out of me. After shooting hours too. I am pretty sure I would have shot it if it came up the tree.

My boss , who also hunts public land in Illinois, asked me where I shot my deer. I replied, "in his side parts". Then he said, "no, where were you hunting?" And I replied,

    Exactly.
I really don't mind trying to help a beginner or someone that's new to the area (if I like em). But the people that won't scout, won't go over there after season and walk, they just want you to put them in a tree so they can shoot a deer, nope.
Not that I know anything, but I go over there close to 100 times a year hunting, scouting or just driving around to see what the deer are doing. I'm not complaining, I love it or I wouldn't do it. But to just say, "hey man, get in that tree that took me 27 years to find so you can shoot a deer and tell everybody about it" no, I'm not doing that.
Sorry about the rant, it's a personal dislike of mine.
On a side note; I took my long time hunting partner in that swamp last year and truly hoped he would shoot a good one. It didn't happen, but I hope it does in the future.

This used to be one of my dear friends, he and I did a lot together. He helped me redo my kitchen, he spent weeks working on it with me. He wouldn't let me pay him so I told him I'd take him hunting with me. We went one Saturday in rifle several years ago and he shot this 8, biggest one he's ever killed. 20 minutes later I shot this small 8 cause we needed some meat. We were sitting in the same blind, I got his on video. The following Saturday we went back and he shot this other 8 out of the same spot. A few days later his sister in law sends my wife a message with a story about her husbands blind getting stolen and he hasn't killed a deer and wants to know if I can take him. I told my wife I'm not running a guide service, we just got lucky and it was the least I could do to take him with me in the first place. My dad (who taught me how to hunt) makes a comment about him shooting 2 deer and says something about going hunting with me, so I did take him, we didn't see anything. I've taken several friends with me hunting over the years but it bothered me that my buddy killed 2 and everybody else I know thinks they get the privilege of going too.

This second picture, we got to skinning this buck and he had a point off another deer broke off in his forehead from where he had been fighting.

Like you said, put the work in and it will pay off....eventually.

When you get skunked 3 years in a row, the requests quit coming in lol. I’m hoping to break that streak sometime.
