What if they splash around and don't get picked up by the pick up tube? Then they will never make it to the oil filter?

What if I asked you if I could put some, maybe just a few shavings in your engine and told you they would settle to the bottom and not to worry..... Can we use your truck as a test?

100s of thousands, if not actual millions of Toyota vehicles prove the science behind their oil change interval, and the lack of problems with break-in particles every single ‘effin day. Every new Tacoma, that drives off the lot, and does not experience premature engine failure (which very few do......so few we never see it posted about......never see a bad lab report from Blackstone.....literally nothin but crickets), while following Toyota’s recommendations, is a test truck that proves you are wrong, as am I.

I like this thread. It helps my analyze my own misconceptions and realize that I too, have fallen victim of the nonsense here. My wife’s Camry has not been subjected to this break-in oil change paranoia nonsense, and it runs beautifully.

I can’t crap and you guys are arguing about oil change interval. Who’s got the real problem here?

My truck got a first oil change at 3100 miles and our Rav4 got a first oil change at 5000 miles. Both were at the 12 month interval though.

My second car was a 1985 Fleetwood Brougham. I used to let it go 10,000 miles between changes of bottom-shelf 10W40. I off-roaded that big bastard harder than any vehicle I have owned since. (Hit any obstacle with enough speed and the momentum will carry you over the high-center like a big scrapey sled.) The last oil change came out dark green, with an awful lot of glitter. After that last change I was lucky if I could coax it to go 30 mph. A lot of smoke was emanating from under the hood, too. I still drove that fucker for another month before it finally seized.

Edit: I happened to own it while digital cameras were still a novelty. I have no idea what craziness happened to the photo since, though.

OP, since you are new here, I'm sure you didn't mean to start this dumpster fire.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to change every 10,000 miles. I've been having tests done on my oil and even get the suggestion to try out 12,000 miles. 10 is an easy round number, so I keep it there. See results in my signature. Oil and engines are just better than they were in 1955.
