Listening a few years ago to a friends college football son talk about what goes on under a pile. Players intentionally trying to cause harm to opposing players. He played for Sac State, now in LE in Sacramento. Anyway, local radio out of Susanville mentioned what happened in a game between Paradise HS and West Valley HS. Caught on video was one player pummeling a opponent in the pile. When do players learn this? Piss poor officiating? Favoritism?

Coaching should sit them down and have a brief talk with the player or suspend the player. Sportsmanship may not always be coached. Maybe football needs to take lessons from Little League.

Little league, where parents storm the field and brawl? Parenting is a problem first, coaching second, individuals third.

I don’t know why anybody lets their kids play football these days, but the problem of poor sportsmanship and hyper aggression is an issue in all competition. Even US Olympics!

Sorry, West Valley wasn't one of the teams involved, they will be a team in the championship game against Paradise tonight.

Go Paradise! I graduated from Paradise back in the day.
I think it is amazing that these kids have come this far with all of the obstacles they have had to deal with. I read the article about this and it sounds like the opposing team twisted the head of the Paradise running back in that scrum which instigated the fight. Do I approve of the fighting no. Do I agree with watching the back of your teammates. I would have to say yes.

The announcer on KJDX was really for Paradise. He gave out contact info for the NSCIF on Facebook. Announcer mentioned not a way for Seniors to end their play this way, getting suspended for pulling their team mates off the pile so they wouldn't get suspended. No leeway I guess in rules.
    Opposing team was Live Oak.
The town of Susanville raised some of the biggest contributions for the displaced folks in Paradise. Went thru the Fire Dept in Paradise.

Soccer headers? Wonder if they will at least have kids under 18 wear helmets?

I played competitive soccer through college. That rule is the dumbest thing ever. Lets wait until kids are much bigger, faster and aggressive and then let them try and learn to head the ball. Then watch them bust their heads because they have never been taught at young age. I'm all for the padded head bands goalies wear etc, but not letting them learn to the head the ball until 12yrs old is plain stupid.

What's the difference between proper and improper use of heading and does proper heading actually reduce head injuries? Keep in mind it doesn't take a diagnosed concussion to add to head injuries. It can be cumulative effect of many minor impacts.

Edit:also sounds like that rule was about eliminating liability rather than actually preventing injuries ....which may be a little related...or not.

It's not about physics, it's about the damage to developing brains being much more detrimental.

That it is true, but it doesn't negate the fact that 12 year olds who have never been trained to head the ball all of the sudden running into each other and smashing heads. Its not about the actual ball and head, the head injuries are usually head to head collisions. Heading a soccer ball is not a violent action, colliding head to head is. Go watch a youth soccer game these days and everyone just stands and waits for the ball to come down and bounce. There is real skill and timing involved in going up for a header. To just ban it until 12 years old and then have fast young kids start flying at each other with no training is stupid. I will teach my kids how to head the ball properly even if they wont be allowed to do it in leagues.

The difference between proper and improper heading of the ball is what part of the head you use. The correct way it to use your forehead, the incorrect way is to look down and use the top of your head.
