Well, I've never complained about those things because I recognize I drive a PICKUP TRUCK.

If I wanted fast acceleration, I'd buy a sports car.

The Model X, while it does have a tow rating (on paper) that rivals Tacomas and 4Runners, 1) it costs like 3x as much and 2) as a video posted earlier shows, doesn't come close to having a useful range while towing even small loads (less than half the rated capacity).

My $32k 4Runner can tow 2x the weight they used in that video almost twice as far.

Mind you, I'm not saying electric pickups by their nature are bad. I'm saying that THIS truck is a terrible application of the concept, and doesn't really meet what most pickup truck drivers "need" in a pickup.

I'd love to see an all electric pickup/suv that is oriented towards off-road, and I'd also love to see one that can tow effectively. But I just don't think one of these do-it-all designs are practical. The design criteria that would be useful for an off-road oriented overlander are not going to be the same as the guy who needs to tow 18k pounds and haul a bunch of 4x8 plywood to the job site.

This is why our Tacomas (that do well off-road) don't tow 18k pounds, and why an F350 don't do well off road.

Certainly neither of them need ballistic protection and sub 3 second 0-60 times.

I don't know about other states, but in CA you can have tinted windows as long as they came on the vehicle that way from the factory. Aftermarket tint is where you'll get in trouble

I had to deal with that when I had my Scion's windows tinted and got popped for it, that's how the judge explained it to me anyway.

I had it on there for a few years with no issues, but I got pulled over for a moving violation and the cop added the window tint fine onto the ticket. Had to get it removed and prove it to the judge in traffic court (just had to wait there all day and show him the receipt for the removal). But by and large most people do it here anyway and rarely anyone has to remove it. Mine wasn't even that dark, I deliberately did the lighter tint to avoid getting in trouble...didn't work out lol.

My brother (a badge) knows plenty of other badges that have straight pipes on their harleys.

    That doesn't mean it's legal.

My coworker has a model s that’s on like it’s 8th drive unit (I.e. motor!). It’s all been replaced under warranty but he’s in a loaner every few months while something major is getting fixed.

I’m curious if Tesla will stay around as the big companies that actually know how to make cars get more and more into the electric vehicle segment. They had a niche when they started but now everyone’s getting into it.

Too bad that it'll never look like that with direct drive electric motors.

    Yeah... no thanks.

I recently saw a pre-production Rivian R1T in person and it's quite an attractive design. It's the kind of truck I could see myself buying even it had a regular drivetrain.

Well at least with a race truck, bragging about the 0-60 times makes sense.
