So my truck has been making a strange metallic popping sound, usually when turning. The shop I took it to said I need new lower control arms to the tune of $1200. They said the LCAs had some movement to them which was causing that noise. I couldn't believe the cost to replace them. Do you guys think a dealer will be cheaper? Any idea where I might find new LCAs for less cost?

Also, how would my LCAs go bad? I only have a little over 50k miles on my truck and it sees mostly highway miles. It has a mild lift too so what's the deal? Pretty bummed out.

There was a thread on this a while back... Try to torque the LCA bolts to 110lbs (i think thats what i remember) And the noise should go away.

^ I already did that and it helped but the shop said there is still too much play in those LCAs. Sucks I can't just get new bushings.

Sounds like it's time to upgrade to LONG TRAVEL!!

or, maybe you can find a member on here who has long travel, and wants to sell their old LCAs.

I just did a quick RockAuto.com search because I was curious myself. Yeah, they're basically $500 a piece on there, and they usually have the lowest prices. But holy crap that's so expensive!

Sorry, bud, looks like your SOL unless you find somebody to help you out.

Thanks sachou. i told the shop to loosen the bolts and to try to retorque them down again. My buddy and I tried that about a month ago but we may have not torqued them down enough. We'll see. Yeah, it's really expensive. Thanks Toyota.

x2. If you're dropping that much coin you might as well upgrade. The TC LCAs are far stronger and serviceable.

You should still be under the powertrain warranty. Ask the dealership if it is covered.

Is that 5 years/60K? I forget. I could try the dealer but the issue is with the suspension not the powertrain.

I was under the impression we couldn't get these separately. Interesting. Thanks for checking.

Damn why are those things so much? They don't look particularly complicated to make.

^ Good old Toyota. I have my truck back as it was. I asked the guy at the shop if they sold the bushings separately and he told me no, that it all has to be replaced. I guess they really wanted $1200 out of me.

I have some good knowledgeable friends who can help me troubleshoot this further. Thanks for everyone's help.

All you need to do to check the bushings is jack up the front of the truck and check for play at the bushings with a pry bar. 10 mins work.

My LCA bushings are shot to sh!t..and I know I need to replace them cus I get all the same poping and clinky clanky noises too.

It's kind of embarrassing to say the least..I wish they were greasable..
