I’m kicking myself in the a** for not using PayPal good and services and gifting him the money to avoid PayPal fees! I figured a fellow Tacoma World member is not going to screw me, and I’ll save him some money. Well after buying these headlights, I’m now thinking other wise.

These were supposed to be “like new” condition. They were packaged really well, even double boxed. The inside box is not damaged in any way so it clearly happened before they were packed or during packing. What do you guys think? Is this even fixable? The scratches are very deep. Would you try and fix it, and ask for some compensation? Or would you just try and get your money back. I paid $350 plus split the shipping cost which costed me another $34.

I’d want my money back on that one. Have you contacted him yet?

What are the chances that you scratched them while opening the box?

Everything is fixable, even those deep scratches. I know it's not what you wanted out of all of this, but shit happens sometimes. First you will have to ruin that section of the headlights with some really gritty sandpaper however, think 100-150 grit then work your way up to 2000-2500 grit slowly working your way up in succession. Eventually you will have to wet the sandpaper and do wet sanding on the plastic.

It didn’t happen coming out of the box, I cut the tape and the headlights were face down in form fitting foam. They were surprisingly well packaged, I think the boxes came with another set of headlights.

Ahh, gotcha. Well it depends how this plays out. If the member screwed you then you will have to opt for the fix it yourself route, which is not hard, but it is time consuming and will require you place a sealant coating to protect the plastic after. Don't feel too bad about it. Toyota makes garbage headlight clear assemblies anyways and they tend to yellow out after about 3-4 years which would require doing wet sanding to restore them eventually anyways.

Do they match the pictures in his original post? Those are not “like new”...if the post said so he lied.
Those are easily fixed. Talk to a detail shop.
I’d probably get a quote to fix and split it with the seller.

Those scratches look alot like the scratches these headlights get when you remove them and they fall backwards into the mounting hole. Search for "broken headlight tabs" and you will see the same marks on people who have had the tabs break off.

I posted what I bought them for $350 and we split the shipping which was an addition $34 for me. Originally I asked if he would sell them for $350 shipped which he said yes to. Me being a nice guy thought I would gift him the money and save him the PayPal fees. T add insult to injury, he complained about how much the shipping was so I VOLUNTARILY offered to split the shipping cost! Wow I screwed up!

yeah pictures dont suggest scratches and the price isnt a "deal" I have a plastic polish kit and have used it many times. it works but those are decent scratches and will take time to get out.

Ouch. Looks like he purposefully avoided showing that on the left headlight in the original post
