Since we're in the mood to post useless wheels and tire combos... I have two of these stupid things sitting in my garage. I'm almost ready to pay YOU to take them.

@rlx02 @Jasonstacoma I was considering the ridge grapplers because they offer them in C in the size i want, but according to their website the C tires weigh the same as the E version?

I'm guessing that's because they're mud-terrains, vs their lighter all-terrain cousins. However, keep in mind that E rated tires are not just heavier, but use a stiffer (more ply's) side wall. Even if they're lighter, E-rated tires will likely give you a harsher on-road ride.

@Bertw192 I was only considering C if there would be a weight savings, I have always ran E tires on my tacos for durability and don't mind the stiffer ride. I'm really hard on tires.

From what I understand, going to a higher load range like C to E (in a mud or hybrid/mud tire), doesn't actually mean a thicker sidewall. If this was the case, the E range tires should weigh more than the C range tires. I was reading that it's the construction of the sidewall is designed to support more weight or higher PSI.

I don't know why people say a higher load range is better for off road, it really shouldn't be because even though you can go to a lower psi, the tire isn't going to conform as well over rocks and obstacles as a lower load range tire is. I go down to 12-15 on my c-range grapplers and never have debeaded. I think I've gone done lower in the snow too.

I use them because they're more puncture resistant. I of course carry a spare, plugging kit, and air compressor when I go anywhere, but almost always am by myself when I'm out and about, and want to minimize the risk of getting multiple flats. Or even one flat.

There's no proof that higher load range tires are more puncture resistant than lower ranges. Modern tires don't have more plys the higher you go, they're just stronger to withstand more air pressure. A kevlar reinforced c-range mud tire is going to have more puncture resistant sidewalls than an all season E range tire.

I'm almost certain the BFG KO2 C-rated has less plys than the E-rated. Now maybe you're saying that it's not universally dependent, but there is at least 1 example where it is.

The two differences I see are in the ability to go to a much lower psi for greater deformation (I'm talking low single digits), and a sidewall with greater puncture resistance. If you have beadlocks the debeading shouldn't be an issue, but then I think you have greater chance of punctures at super low psi. Because I run deep snow, I run E range tires. If I were just doing trails I probably wouldn't.

Low pressure changes this. A lot. The kevlar stuff I don't believe is apples to apples either.

I've ripped the sidewall on more than one non-E tire. Never ripped one an an E tire.
