oh damn, I wish that was my concept of not a lot. haha. Also I assume that doesn't include the cost of tires?

OME makes some good quality kits, and this one is under a grand:
Plus you get a tw member discount.

I would also suggest spindles since you want about 4'' of lift, but that'll definitely put you over a grand.

another option: people seem to like the blistens 5100s here. you could also just buy the 5100 shocks and run a 3'' ome lift coil in the front and buy an aal for the rear. that would be a tad cheaper than both of these kits. like 640ish

many people have this kit on this site. i'd search around for pics. I'm actually running half of this kit (OME 884 coils up front along with ome shocks, and 5100s in the rear), and it handles really well. It's not recommended that you add lift spacers to these though.

If you want additional lift (over 3'')you could look into coilovers:

Why have a non-functional hood scoop?

Seems some think the lift enhances the look, similar to how many of the (moslty) younger posters would crawl over glass with bare knees for a scooped hood.

    ...the eye of the beholder...

Added clearance, looks, or just because they feel like it....pick one, pick all, no wrong answers. 2wd's can do a fair share of wheeling too.
