For sure. Look at his back in this picture. It’s swayed like an old horse. 200 pound deer is about as big as you’ll ever see around these parts, he’s close to that.

Shot a buck in Nebraska that looked like that. Check station aged it at 4.5+ yo. Guy said he had been aging deer for almost 25 years.

it can be deceiving...BUT typically the external markers are close. The teeth tell all, a friends wife shot a nice buck last year they thought was older, even surprised me. Just had good genetics. he looked like he was 4.5 to 5.5...but his teeth said he was only 3.5.

How old you think this one is? We have some good genetics around here.

I would shoot that no matter what! I don't care if he's 6 months old. That's a good one.

Oh I did, the following year. I had no idea this deer existed until I shot him. A friend had pictures of him from 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 and gave them to me after I shot him. Here’s his shed from that picture. He added a 2” sticker on that side at 5 1/2.

He’s got a sticker above his eye an inch long. His brow tines are actually shorter at 5 1/2 than they were at 4 1/2. Pretty sure he was on the decline. 7146EC1E-F3C0-41DA-9D79-AEB31836D1BA.jpg

Alabama rain forest? Good luck this morning!
That rain is headed this way today but next week looks like some deer killing weather.

that deer is older than 2 1/2. my guess is 4 1/2. for east coast deer too thick in the shoulders for 2 1/2.we are in a management program with game commision. we send in a jaw bone from every deer we kill and the weight. they send us a report of the deer age.last year a youngin killed the best one we killed. it was 6 1/2. 205lbs. mountain deer. never saw a corn field in its life95F055CB-75A9-4B97-88DD-D18D743B89F6.jpg
