You technically don’t need chains if the tire are M+s rated w/ 4wd which the gy kevlars are. I still carry chains.. but have yet to use them 10 years living in Tahoe. My other taco has general At which are great in snow and have the 3 peak rating. Just drive slow.... don’t let someone tailgating pressure you in to driving fast in the snow. Take your time!

I'm tempted to buy a set of chains. Planning a trip to Tahoe in late Dec!! rather be safe than sorry? what kind of snow chain do you own?

I am in Colorado and the stock GY's were absolute garbage. I changed to 3-peak rated Pirelli AT's and they work great in the snow and ice. Not as good as dedicated snow tires, but good enough and a hell of a lot better than the stock Goodyears. I do run dedicated snows on my commuter and the rest of the family's cars. Dedicated snow tires for areas that have snow fall for 3-4 months out of the year is a must in my opinion. There just is no comparison to supposed "all-season" tires.

Cables. Perry or something like that. We do have blizzaks on our Subaru and I am Tempted to get some general artics but will most likely go with dura tracs.

Good info. Note that we cant put chains in front, and I doubt cables would be good there either. Pisses me off as I used to put them on front and back to plow and winter offroad in the mountains with my 1st gen.

No- you are mentioning R2, if the snow is bad enough, CHP can require at R3 levels for all vehicles to use chains.

It’s good you carry them, even at R2 (chains or 4wd only), Ive had officers ask to see if I was carrying chains and they even checked the size- they were not allowing people with 4wd’s to proceed if they weren’t carrying chains.

Most tires are fine. Add some sandbags in the back and should be good to go! As a friendly reminder 4wd gets you moving but won’t help you stop on ice!

The good old days when my pops would let us do donuts in the parking lot of his work. He always said this will make you a better driver in winter. Knowing how to correct a over steer or sliding out of control.

Ahhh the things we get to pass to our children!

They work fine. True story: I was traveling from PA to DC and we got hit hard with a blizzard with about 5” on the roads unplowed and minimal visibility.

Traveling the same speed as the F-250 in front of me we went around a long sweeping down hill curve and about half way through the F-250 lost it, spun 360 and went into a ditch backwards and wrecked his rear suspension. We tracked normal without issue or slips.

Now I’ll never buy the stock tires ever but they worked when I needed them.

About $100 on Amazon, easy install and removal and great quality. Cheap cables can snap and rip up your truck
