I am very fortunate to have the truck I do, and definitely dont deserve it! I loved the simplicity of my 02 jeep tj x. I will probably keep this truck until the wheels fall off and the motor blows up, more truck than I could ever need, but happy to have it!

Did your parents realize that the 4 and the 6 MPG difference is minimal? Both avg 21.5

I have to admit that the sport suspension is too stiff and the borla muffler I bought is too loud...

Amen, brother. I consider myself a car guy. I do a lot of reading and research, so when I go in to buy a car, I know exactly what I’m looking for. It’s pretty obvious when I talk to a salesman, I know more about their product than they do.

On a related note, I bought my 2nd. gen base Prerunner new, and got exactly the cab configuration, color and drivetrain that I wanted. The salesman tried to talk me into stepping up to the SR5, but I shut him down pretty quick. As several have mentioned, upgrades are easy. I added N-Fab rock rails, intermittent wiper stalk, XM radio to the stock factory radio, receiver hitch, fog lights, and TRD Off-Road wheels. Plus, I took it to a body shop and for $100 they painted the grill surround to match the body color. For about $750 I‘ve got everything that I wanted and still paid $2000 less than the SR5 the guy wanted me to buy.

The fact that your parents even bought you a car is pretty awesome, much less a practically new Tacoma.

no, but I did. Unfortunately my dad is “an old timer” I guess you could say. He’s in his 50s, and is pretty mechanical. He’s used to the 4 cylinder engineers being more efficient with gas mileage than the 6. So he still suggested the 4 cylinder. It’s whatever, my next truck I’ll definetly get the better engine since I’ll be the one paying for it

it sucks. Didn’t make sense to me either that a 4 and 6 get the same. I’m guessing the 4 is working harder to move the weight of the truck than the 6.

my buddy at work after 1 year traded in his 4 for the 6 for that exact reason. 119HP is huge. But if you plan on keeping it MOD it out little things make a huge difference and these trucks come kinda generic so there’s more mods for a Tacoma than any other vehicle. Come here before you buy stuff and see what others experiences with products are.

I had a 1970 Datsun 1600 that I got from saving up paper route, lawn mowing and finally when I was old enough fast food job money. I was fortunate my ff job was union so I was making almost 4 bucks and hour while my friends at Jack in the crack were making a buck sixty five.

If you don’t tow or drive a lot of hills you don’t need the 6. Even with the 6, driving hills and towing can be a drag.

Congrats on your truck. I have nothing to add on whether you have legal recourse.

If you're still on reasonable terms with the dealership I'd ask them to cover the labor costs on adding remote door locks (you pay for the parts.)

Most everything else is relatively simple and inexpensive to add/upgrade.

I bought an SR for <$30k that has the same exact engine and transmission as Tacoma's selling for $43k (although I can afford a Pro.)

You (and your family) made a great choice. The communication issue is unfortunate.. but don't let that taint the adventures of your new kick-a$$ Tacoma.

In 1994 my older brother and I had to share a 1975 Ford truck with 3 on the tree. The fuel pump would not turn on with key on, so I rigged up a toggle switch you had to turn on in order to drive it. It turned out that the switch made a good anti theft device.

You test drove it and all. With your eyes closed or something? Why didn't you ask about features and model numbers and actually LOOK at the truck. Sounds like you did 0 research and had mommy and daddy buy your truck. Ironically, you only bring up the "issue" because the other Tacomas you are too busy staring at have shiny chrome. Come over and I'll gladly let you have my chrome parts from my Limited.

Your first vehicle should be a used corolla for under 3k. Have fun taking them to court. Is this the new chan or what.
