Op You're going to hear a Shit storm of opinions on this, I guess it depends on your age, fitness levels, driving habits, experience and traffic
you deal with for Your daily driving.
In heavy traffic, MT's quickly get old but in light or no traffic MT's are more fun. Off road I prefer an AT a lot of folks here have issues they don't like about the AT programming so drive both, note the differences you like and dislike then at least you made an educated decision, time will tell if it was the right one

What about the MX-5 or BRZ/86? Seems like they were made to answer your very needs.

I don't take my truck to the limits, although that sounds like fun. But I do enjoy the experience of double clutch rev matching down shifts, or the ultimate, sequential DC heeltoe downshifting. At least something for kicks on an otherwise pedestrian drive.

those are among the cars I'm talking about. they are awesome. but on the street not so much for me personally. they would say you can pull 5/10's on the street and no more without going fully illegal. handling-wise I'm often at 9 and occasionally 10 in the truck. racecar speak, that is.

Leave the rocket scientistry to scientifists. Get whichever transmission you want.

Resale value? If you’re planning on buying someone else’s future truck, maybe it ain’t for you.

Get what you want and move on to the next major life choice, like briefs or boxers.

I had a 2006 manual sport. That was not a good transmission. Getting into 3rd was crunchy by 60k, and they had throwout bearing issues. Low speed/technical/careful off-road is also very difficult with them. I had to slip the clutch way too much, even just in daily driving. Pulling a fair amount of weight will cause you to slip it even more. Reverse is also ridiculously tall for some reason, so much so that there is now a mod to put yourself in 2-low so you don't have to slip the clutch so much in reverse. I'm glad there is still a manual option, but it doesn't seem geared very well. I went AT on my 2016 for all those reasons.

could be differences in locale, or perception - rumormill here would have me believe theres varying quality in production too. Mine 100% is a lemon. It’s never ran right

I have both. Its the perfect combo. I used the BRZ (manual ugh ugh ugh) as a daily for almost 5 years (summer and Canadian winters). It is much more fun than a Tacoma in pretty much every driving aspect. But you can't beat the Tacoma when it comes to utility and road tripping.

different strokes. if i could throw the BRZ into a corner on a public road the same way i can on a private course, then I'm agreeing. until then, it's sour grapes driving a capable car and constantly holding back everything. :notsure:

They put Prius tires on it just for the folks who think hooning it around Main Street is cool.
