I love Toyota’s and we have had 5 in all. We currently have two, a 2015 4Runner trail, which I love by the way, and the afflicted transmission Tacoma. The problem is that it’s first three gears are to close together and it can’t make up its mind what gear it wants to be in. A rolling stop and go means your transmission needs 3 seconds to catch up to your throttle. It’s like turbo lag without the turbo. Like my 97 land cruiser the transmission behaves better if it’s warmed up, and I don’t just mean on cold days. The 2010 Tacoma I traded in on this, looked smaller but had more room front or back. I’ve read some your comments on this, and I think some of you have blinders on and can never see any fault with Toyota, but I paid almost 40k for this thing and I’m disappointed. Anyone here heard about a computer fix for some of the transmission problem on the 2019?

I honest to god don’t have an issue with the transmission. If your not happy with your purchase get rid of it. Life’s too short to be miserable.

I will also be the first to ask, did you test drive it?

Did you sit in it? Look in the back seat before you bought it?

I mean, before spending nearly 40K (Seems way high for a 19 TRD Sport), I would hope people are driving, and really scrutinizing their potential purchases before signing on the dotted line. . . .

It sounds like a classic case of buyers remorse. The luster of a new truck has faded and now all that's left is a crazy high (hope you dropped some major cash down) monthly car payment. . .

    Sorry you feel that way.

2019 TRD OR Manual owner here and i'm happy as can be.

I would say sell/trade it but your going to be deeeeeeep in the red on that. It's going to be a costly divorce.

With inflation you paid about 3-5k more then a loaded 2004 TRD Off-road Tacoma. 40k doesn’t buy what it use to.

I've only had my 2019 Access cab 4 cyl 6 speed automatic a couple of months, and did notice that Toyota sure put the 1st and second gear changes awful quick, I think even below 2000 rpm or so, pretty wimpy lol. After reading a few threads here and talking to a friend, I tried out ECT mode which gives it a more aggressive throttle response and increases the shifting to a higher RPM, and that is what I typically drive in on my short trips to work (speeds 45 to 55 and some stop and go traffic), its pretty normal in that mode. The other thing I found out is when starting out from a stop even with ECT off, if you steadily and more aggressively depress the gas pedal, it will shift at a higher rpm, and when i want it to change gears, i just ease of the pedal a little. On the highway at 55-70 mph, I will take ECT off. It's second nature with me now, and I pretty much control the shifting pattern by how I use the gas pedal. I'm happy with it now that I've learned the machine :)

Well I was hoping I would find some like minded people who found a solution to some of the problems I’m having with the truck and could give me advice on fixing the issues. Instead I get a lecture on how I paid too much, have buyers remorse, or didn’t test drive it.

In a perfect world I would have rented one, pulled a camper across country, to get a good feel for her. Instead I bought one in down town Atl, on a busy Saturday, using only my previous knowledge and like for the Toyota brand. Oh and I also looked on Tacoma world to what Tacoma owners thought. Well now I’m an owner and I’m looking for people who are having the same issues with the truck. I’m happy that your happy with your truck. Start a thread about how happy you are. We are talking about a truck not your mother, so don’t take it so personally if someone doesn’t like it as much as you do.

Actually as a few have pointed out the transmission is probably the biggest gripe with the Tacoma though I believe the issue was resolved for the most part with TSB and the 18+ models. But if youre seeking a better throttle response OVTune is pretty popular as it will better calibrate throttle response, there are others but thats probably you best bet.

No one has blinders, I think everyone who has the truck has their gripes here and there. Definitely would be nice to have more space but its a reliable stylish midsize truck we know what we got into for the most part.

Always someone saying "you paid way too much, I paid blah blah blah". Almost as annoying to hear as people complaining about their truck constantly but refuse to trade it off

Apparently some of you paid cash for theirs. I count the interest on the loan as part of the price.
