I agree with stuff like school taxes, and the money they take to pay cops, but to give you an example, my friend went to a Best Buy in Delaware to spend over $3,500 on a new TV and other electronics.

I refuse to use Crutchfield anymore because they still don’t collect sales tax from anyone but residents of their home state of Virginia, but they report them to their home state. As a result, I was forced to waste an extra $25 of my money more than a year after I bought a $325 stereo for my truck, which I’m pretty sure included penalties and interest.

Fuck sales tax! The whole reason I bought stuff like car stereo equipment online was to avoid the goddamn sale tax. Unfortunately, the E-commerce law was passed right as I bought my new head unit.

The government is the worst case of welfare in many cases, in the sense that they take a lot of my money and spend it on stupid stuff that nobody wants or needs!

A friend just offered me money to drive him up to Greenwich, Connecticut to buy a Lincoln Town Car. His Pontiac Vibe was totaled by a drunk driver recently and he has enough money saved up to pay cash for a very nice new car, but he insists on buying a an older vehicle.

    • I will not be driving up to Connecticut during Thanksgiving week.
    • I don't think a Town Car is worth a trip to Connecticut anytime.

I live in PA and apparently they only remove two wheels. One front and one back on opposing sides to check brakes.

Also I rather pay $14 for the convenience of them doing it while the trucks already there instead of bringing it somewhere else or doing it myself. I have everything I need to do it myself, but a bit too lazy.

However; if they removed all your wheels to check brakes, that's kinda funny and I'm on your side.

In Va they only do 2 wheels as well, 1 in front and 1 in back to check the condition. I imagine had you asked them they would have told you what it would involve, and whether it was as simple (they had them all off anyway) as you suspected.

$14 seems fairly reasonable to me for a tire rotation though. May I ask how much time you would have been out had you waited to have your family friend/mechanic do it for free, and what you feel your time is worth? And multiply that times 2 - - 1 trip for the inspection and 1 trip for him to do the rotation for each vehicle? That may ease the pain a little too...

I will say that I do trust the dealers to torque to specs and replace studs/lugs if they're damaged in the process, unlike some gas stations and garages. I still check, but rarely catch them not like the gas stations and garages usually do (around me anyway). Sorry feel you got burnt, but you have to admit its a fairly cheap lesson if you feel you got burnt.

Another classic car from As Told By Ginger, specifically the season 2 episode New Girl in Town...

The new girl is the daughter of a single father who happens to be a mortician. It is unknown if he has a "normal" daily driver, but he picks up his daughter from school in the hearse because he has to drop off a deceased old woman at a funeral. This episode takes place in 2001 or so, but the car clearly resembles a 1950s Cadillac (specifically a 1948-1953 or 1954-1956 Series 62; the car pictured below is a 1956).

The oldest hearse I've ever seen still in service at a funeral home in recent years is a 2001-2005ish Cadillac Deville; Most funeral homes around here have 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS hearses, or those hideous new Lincolns. I think older hearses are classier!

FUN FACT: I want a hearse, but my mom (A) won't let me park such a vehicle in her driveway, and (B) believes people would think I'm weird. I will respect her wishes on that first point and wait until I get my own place to buy a hearse, but I could seriously care less what people think about me or the vehicle I'm driving!

This is the type of hearse I'd want to buy...

The car pictured above is a 1992 Cadillac (last year for this style of Cadillac); It has the venerable 5.7L V8 and is capable of towing 5,000 pounds in stock sedan form. If it can haul a dead body with ease, imagine how it would handle a coffin with a couple of 12" subs stashed inside!

    :headbang:

Yes, one of the things I'd look for when buying a vehicle is how much of a sound system it can handle...

It is absolutely amazing to me what people are willing to do to get a vehicle. A guy I know just bought a 2004 Ford F150 XLT 4x4 with over 100K miles earlier this year (from the same dealer where I used to work as a detailer), and guess what?!?! He financed it! The truck is in great shape and runs good, but I can't imagine the thing being worth much more than ten grand. I hate to say this, but he's screwed if the engine or transmission fails in that thing...

Always best to finance as little as possible.

My Tacoma was a gift from my parents. My dad bought it brand new in September 2009 and paid a little under $15,000 for it. He put $2,000 down, financed the rest through Citadel at 0.9% APR, and paid it off early. He signed the title over to me in December 2016, so now it actually is my truck. I pay insurance and routine maintenance, and nothing more. It's my truck, it's paid for, and I've got the title locked in a safe. I plan on driving my Tacoma until it is no longer ecomonically feasible to do so (which should be precisely 20never)! If something breaks on it (like the blown axle seal a couple weeks ago), it is not cheap, but also not terribly expensive.

If my truck ever needs a new engine (which it probably won't for at least another 250K miles), my mechanic Pete can put one in it for about $3,200!

Exactly! Especially if it's a vehicle older than maybe five or six years with over 50K on the clock. That's just asking for trouble in my opinion, especially if the dealer is shady.

My cousin bought her 2017 RAV4 XLE AWD brand new in late 2017 and got 0% financing. She has almost 67K miles on it in a little more than two years! By comparison, it took me seven years to reach the exact same mileage in my truck!

I literally hit The Devil’s Mileage on the seventh anniversary of when we bought the truck (see above)...

My cousin hit it just over two years after she bought her RAV4 (she sent me this text today; Well, technically yesterday)!

What would you do with it? How about a long bed 2wd Tacoma with a cap?

They don’t make long bed Tacomas. Only 6-foot beds, and I hate caps!

I had a cap on my 14 Silverado, there convenient. It was color matched and looked nice too, but I had to walk in on my knees!

I have a tri-fold tonneau cover now and it’s awesome!
