I’m not going to make it to Musterground but I’ll be at my parents cabin about 30 minutes away or so after 10am (brother got earlier flight so I can’t make it)

looks to be about 1-1.5 inches of rain but you should be fine as most climbs I saw were pretty well graveled. Drop me a pm if you run into issues and need an extra winch to get someone out

I'm also relatively close in case someone gets into a situation up there.
No winch but I have f/r lockers on the Rubicon and plenty of recovery gear.

Hope you guys get to make it thru the gate at Auger hole.

Most of my pictures didn’t turn out well because of the rain on my lens, but it was a great time nonetheless.

That was a good ride. I'm glad I went even though it was a rainy mess. @Sprocket1505 you drive like a beast. Hopefully @CowboyTaco will upload the vid of you fucking sending it up that muddy climb, that was fun to watch. I had the same issue @r0bn8or, most of my pics didn't turn out from rain on the lens.

I linked up with Michael off 211. We hauled ass up to here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/F...940b!8m2!3d35.0123145!4d-82.999118?shorturl=1 and met Robby and Devin (y'all PM me if I'm spelling those wrong). Robby, did you get the pic of us at the trailhead?

It was misty and rainy, but at least it was warm! The trail started off as easy gravel, no big deal.

    KIMG0315.jpg

    KIMG0318.jpg

It turned from a gravel road into a trail shortly after this bridge:

    KIMG0347.jpg

    KIMG0344.jpg

We eventually got to a steep muddy incline, it took me a couple of tries to get up. We need videos of that. :anonymous:

We scoped out a campsite, there was a wrecked old Tercel awd there.

    KIMG0351.jpg

    KIMG0350.jpg

We got lost and hit a dead end and had to turn around, but tracked a whole bunch of new trails that we didn't have gpx for on the way. Found another cool bridge on our way out.

We found our way out and split to go home. The rain broke on the ride back, the sky looked awesome, but my phone didn't capture it well. Huge clouds, sunbeams. It was great until I hit 85 closer to the city and everyone started crashing into each other. I ended up taking backroads home.

Agreed! We need to do it soon though. From what I understand, there's a gate that is traditionally closed. There is speculation on another thread that it is only open because it is broken. I'm not sure I ever saw it, so I can't say whether that was the case.

Anyway, we started at the beginning of Musterground Rd and rode that until we went north on Auger Hole Rd. I think Auger Hole ends at the metal bridge and it becomes Chestnut Mountain Rd.

I'll get some pics posted tomorrow, but here's my Instagram posts with the videos of Devin and Dave going up the muddy hill. Robby, being the light 4cyl, just crawled up it with no problem before I could ever get the video going.

Correct. There's actually 2 gates right at the sc/nc border. They are hard to see if you aren't looking and about 100 yards in when you take the left at the split at Auger hole trail.

Just past that, there is a trail on the left.
We took note of it and just moved forward.
Is that where you guys found the dead end?

Those gates were actually open. We were able to ride from the bad creek area (where you enter musterground) to the rainbow falls trailhead. I think the entire trip took about 2.5-3 hours. The deadend was a side road when we were trying to get off the trail but were in an area that wasn’t gps’d yet.

We started at 11:08 and finished at 3pm, so right at 4 hours of wheeling with a few stops for pics and discussion of directions.
