OP, what did your parents say when you pointed out the SR vs SR5 discrepancy/controversy to them? I get the sense that you're upset that they paid a sum of money for a truck for you but they were mislead and you don't like them being taken advantage of. It's just a question OP.

OP, I get you are frustrated, and not everyone has been so understanding on here, but you don’t need to reply to every negative thing said to you. Focus on the people trying to help you out.

I know you are young and have a lot to learn still, and let this be a lesson. If a salesman, any type of salesman, is speaking, they are just saying what they pick up on that the customer wants to hear. Their job is to make a sale and part of being a good salesman is B.S. expert.
I do hate that this happened, and the salesman could have not really known the difference, or he could have been feeding you B.S., we will never know the truth of that.
A question that may have been answered and I missed it, was the truck advertised on the website or a sign on the truck saying it was a SR5, or was it just the salesman saying this?

Thank you. I definitely learned a lot from this. In combination with the salesman calling it an SR5, the truck was also advertised on the website as an SR5. That’s why it caught our eye. It was an SR5 that seemed like it was around the price of an SR, so we figured “sweet deal!” Still a good deal, and while I wish I knew what to look for etc, I’m happy with my truck.
I plan on spending some of my own money that I get for working for my school on getting the keyless entry kit and some running boards.

I told them and they were pissed off too. After looking at the paperwork together, we settled down and faced the reality of the situation since there was nothing we could do since the contract was vague. They figured it’s still a great truck, which I completely agree with. We’re all just a bit angry about getting mislead I guess

I am of the opinion that the salesman was likely just as ignorant when he sold you the truck as you were when you bought it. The fact that your truck is technically an SR5 with an SR package confuses things more.

The fact that it was a Toyota dealership is a bit disconcerting though, they should know better, but they often don't. I'm sure the sales manager who set the price knew it was an SR.

I looked through their online listings and found a couple other similar errors. It's unfortunate, but it seems you need to babysit to make sure you're actually getting what you think you're getting.

When we were in the market for a Rav4 I went to a Toyota dealership that didn't know the XLE was available. They thought you could only get the Limited and the LE. They also told me the difference from the LE to the Limited was just leather seats.

    Did you get it here?

Seriously, good lesson at your age. Car salesmen, real estate brokers, preachers, or hookers. If you’re dealing with them, one way or the other your getting fucked...

By the way, people are often shocked to find they know more about trim packages than the salesman himself. It’s not a rare occurrence.

Oh and I almost forgot to leave you with this little tidbit of wisdom.

Anytime you’re dealing with someone who feels the need to let you know or try to convince you that “he is a man of God” your spider sense should be tingling. His hand is probably either in your pocket or on your wife’s ass.

Stay in school and enjoy the truck. The hard work will pay off. Also, don’t share who purchased the truck as people get butthurt even though it’s none of their business anyway.

Truer words were never spoken! I had this happen in my younger days. I asked if a car had a particular feature and since it was clear to the salesman that I wanted this feature his answer was of course yes (it didn't). Now I know not to believe anything the salesperson says and rely on manufacturer's literature to answer any questions I have.

Car salesmen are top of the line scum, closely followed by dealership finance people and "service advisors"

It's not illegal for salesman to lie but the paperwork you sign has to be correct .

If you are not careful the salesman lubes you up and the finance people to put it nicely finish you off .

It is the salesman's job to sell and it is your job to be an informed consumer. Unfortunately, many people rely on the salesmen for their info. That is when issues like the OP has happen.

Oh ya, they lube ya up and try to fuck ya real good. OP I don't know under what circumstances your parents purchased this truck for you, but a bit of a pro tip (I think this is what the kids say) always have your money situation handled before you step into the dealership, try not to rely on their financing.

Well, if it's any consolation, my TRD Sport doesn't have blindspot warning lights either, but to reinforce what others have said here, a lot of the differences can be self installed at a nominal price. Enjoy, you've learned a valuable lesson in life at an early age, you'll be much wiser for it next time.
