Yeah definitely see those lol. I'm not sure but I think there is a cap to how much they can have and if you have more than that amount at the end of the year, they force you to use it up. I don't think you can sell the PTO back without having to take the time off

Running the Baja 1000 today after historic rain storms made them delay 24 hours (vehicles have no windshields). Might have to find a live stream to watch the Baja 1000 course in mud and rain. :mudding:

If you know you are going to be working a lot of overtime for a month or so, go in and change your withholding beforehand. It’s a form called a W4. Instead of the normal 2 you can put 6 or 7 or something. This will help offset the higher taxes withheld from overtime. However, at the end of the year it all evens out. Whatever extra they withheld on those checks will count toward your tax liability at the end of the year. So don’t ever let the tax aspect get in the way of wanting overtime. While it could bump you slightly into a new tax bracket, the brackets are progressive. So if you go from say the 22% bracket to the 24% bracket, only the income over that 24% bracket gets taxed at 24%. So it shouldn’t make that much of a difference.

It’s just a component of how the withholding is calculated. Basically it’s taking whatever you made over those two weeks (say $3000) and multiplying it by 26. So now it thinks you are making $78,000 a year. Then it adjust for your standard deduction (based on your married status) and allowances and calculates your year end tax liability, then divides it by 26 to get the withholding for the paycheck. When you work overtime instead of getting a $3000 check you get a $5000 check. Well it now thinks you make $130,000 a year, so it tries to adjust withholding accordingly. And you pay a lot more tax making $130k than making $78k. So it withholds a lot more.

Glad I could help! Most of the tax stuff isn’t nearly as complicated as it seems once you break it down to its simplest components. The overtime thing is kinda a bitch, but at the end of the year you should get most of the extra withholding back. You ever have any other questions let me know. I’m a CPA and mostly do small business/personal taxes so I’ve seen pretty much everything at some point.

I left a coat and a shirt at the LaQuinta right off the highway. No time frame. If anyone could grab them it’s worth a case of beer.
