Is there an early 3rd gen year that doesn't come with transmission problems and has a conventional engine?

From day 1, and no. The third gen only comes in one flavor and has since the beginning with the V6.

If you want conventional, get the 4 cylinder a manual trans.

Problems typically get worked out later and not introduced later.

I have a 2019 and have not experienced any of the issues I hear about. Perhaps I have the software version that eliminated them. No idea.

I believe everyone when they say that earlier models had issues. But I'm in the camp that believes they were fixed. A lot of cars get released and get updates.

My truck doesn't gear search. It stays in a lower gear during hill climbs. ECT is used when I need to tow trailers as intended. On highways I get 24-26 MPG with early shifts. And I definitely have had no issues accelerating from stops at intersections.

My buddies 19 OR AT drives beautiful. When i drove it, i expected it to shift like shit from all the complaining. I was very surprised and i do not like slushboxes. I would say 2019 will be fine for sure, cant comment on earlier years.

I must be one of the lucky ones. 2016 with no transmission issues.

FWIW I drove one for a few days and enjoyed it. Only time I felt like I didn’t like it was a delayed response when I was at a stop sign trying to enter traffic that was going 45-50. Would’ve liked a little more giddy up and not as much hesitation.

    Driving around town was glorious.

I test drove a 19 model TRD loaded and didn't notice anything weird.. I liked the way it drove. Of course it was on a demo short run. I see some decent deals on 3rd gens.

My truck was built in TX sometime in Nov of 2015.

It has been flawless, the transmission shifts beautifully, and it has sufficient power all the time.

The only thing I can attribute this to is *that on the day my truck was built, Toyoda Akio was touring the plant and they used only the super secret good parts put together by the A team assembly line workers.

Sorry to all you guys whose truck was built the day after...*

    *sarcastic font*

In reality , TW was complaining about the 3rd gen before the first truck rolled off the assembly line as far as I can tell.
