Yup that’s actually where I put it. Mine doesn’t have ABS.

 

Either the cable is gunked up or the bell cranks need lubing, or both

Just realized where I put it I can’t get to the back to feed the wires in. What did you use to extend the + and - to the battery? Mine doesn’t reach from abs location

 

At the e brake adjustments under the cab there’s a return spring that can get gunked up. I remove it and clean/lube it sometimes.

 

That spring popped off on mine once. Worked better with the spring back in place. Would be a good thing to check @m3bassman


Also, don't think anyone mentioned it, but it could just be that the adjustment on the frame is excessively loose. Pull the lever on the frame and see what happens, my guess is that it takes quite a bit of movement to get the bellcranks on the backing plates to move. Adjust it so as soon as you move that lever the bellcranks move, then see how it feels.


FWIW, its taken lots of fine tuning to get my ebrake to work right. I made spacers on the pivot point on the rear axle, all the guides, and the bellcranks.

 

I think you need to work you way from the back forward. Your cable would be pulled back by spring tension if everything is working right, or you ebrake would be stuck on all the time. Given that's not the case, sounds like you have excessive slack somewhere.

Are the bellcranks on the backing plate adjusted properly with the adjustment bolt flush again the backing plate? There's a service procedure for setting those adjustment bolts right. Are the springs on those functioning properly? What happens when you pull on the bellcranks themselves?

Then move to the arm on the frame. What happens when you pull on that? You need to adjust it so the bellcranks on the drums move as soon as you pull on it.

 

Sometimes the accordion boots on the cables tear and allow dirt and dust to get into the cable. Once that happens it takes a lot of lube and working the cable back and forth to loosen things up again

I disconnected the cables at the under cab adjustment to push/pull the cables to make sure they’re free

 

And back in it goes. With a little luck it'll go up on the first try...

Buuuuut, I'm not usually that lucky.

 

Whoa! Thats dope! Would make cleaning mud off so much easier

 

I ran without fender liners for a short while last year and the amount of mud, dirt and rocks that gets caked along inside the door jambs was nuts. Really made me appreciate the liners.

 

It's not the most elegant fix, but it'll work.

 

Finally a 1 piece drive shaft to eliminate those pesky vibs !

 

Is there a write up on this one?

 

I could be wrong but I thought that the extension part was always to be towards the rear diff?
