What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

My buddy that has a double cab 02 that has a arb bumper, winch with steel cable, sliders and soon to have skids is getting coil overs, should he get 650 springs or 700. He also wheels with his kids mostly in the truck and full camping gear

 

They’ll rust still. Your almost guaranteed to nic the finish putting them in

 

I think I’m stuck with Doug Thorleys because of the EGR which is ok.
Rust is not a problem in my area anyways

 

That doesn't really apply to headers. They tend to rust regardless. I'd highly recommend getting the ceramic coated before installing.

 

Jet hot would be the best because it’s high quality inside and out but it’s more than the cost of headers to get it done.

better off getting them already coated. DT also has lifetime warranty. But who the hell is going to take go through uninstalling, sending them in, etc. because of some rust.

I just installed a set of TRD headers on my truck and I think it would apply to your situation. My truck came with 2 cats. My plan was to install the headers and cut the old cat and weld a new flange as others done in the past but when I installed the headers it turned out that the space for the 1st cat wan no more. I ended up with a 4'' gap between the down pipe and the 2nd cat. From doing some research it looks like the headers I bought are for an older truck with a single cat. If the main design is the same the way to tell is the 2 cat truck the angle lines up around 45 degrees where the single cat is a straight connection. here is some pictures to help better explain. My comment to them being cheap was more directed at the wall thickness of JBAs. You'll find they sound kinda tinny when you listen in the cab. It's nice that they use stainless, if they were coated inside and out they'd be a great budget option at their current price.

 

they’re the same gauge thickness that the Thorleys are...

it may be the the sound that stainless makes?

 

The thorleys sound Tinny too. Oem is double walled. It’s unavoidable with aftermarket headers on these

 

Unless custom.

 

Sound deadening on the firewall behind the dash would work wonders.

I don’t find it annoying though. I hear the exhaust and intake over it

You’ve got the the dual pipe crossover. Pretty sure there’s welding for that.

 

Get ready to pony up some serious cash for maybe 20hp.

but i was 4wheeling it Ear-2-Ear

 

I don't think he needs to do any welding at all as the headers should bolt up to the single cat.

 

Maybe. Im not too sure. My headers didn’t come with that extra bit of pipe

 

Received my Avid Bed Rack this week! Positioned it to my liking. Next step is to bolt to the rails and strap it all down.
