Pigs leave a pretty distinguishable track. If there were a bunch of pig tracks then there you have it. I would assume that someone on the force investigating the scene would know this :notsure:

I’ve hunted and killed many, many hogs. Out of the 100’s I’ve been around, none of them wanted to come up to an occupied home, around cars, and dick around with people. The ones that attack you are a weird Russian strain that we don’t really have around here (this happened in Texas). The local news said the sheriff said “appears to be killed by wild animals. Possibly hogs or dogs.”
The media heard the hog part and ran wild with it. Can hogs do it? Yep. Are they more likely to do it than feral dogs? Nope. I’ll eat crow and be really surprised if they come back and say definitely that hogs did it. If it ends up being dogs, we won’t hear another word about it because that’s not good click-bait.

yeah I was thinking the same, being attacked by wild hogs in town would be very rare...now if the lady fell down and was knocked out or died then a pack of feral dogs found her the would start munching on her I bet.

An Indian colleague pointed me at this Ted Talk on that topic -- worth a watch when you have a few minutes.

I agree with the fact that hogs dont really want to be around people, much less attack them. Although, I have had them turn back on me on a couple of occasions when I have hunted them. Twice with dogs and once when it was shot. Now those were way different circumstances, mine were cornered and/or injured and they chose the fight not flight route.
In that setting I dont see hogs attacking her, that part I agree with. I also didn't see anything in the article where they said they saw tracks, you may very well be correct. The article was sparse on facts.

This isn’t far from home. Not sure if it matters or not but in that area they would be saltwater marsh hogs. Whether it was hogs or not I will continue to carry my pistol when I walk the beach, pretty much deserted for 5 miles in both directions, just in case.

Someone my brother works with is from India, she says driving in the US is dull and boring because there are no cows on the freeway. She looks forward to going back to India every year where driving is interesting.
