    It’s not my truck. It’s someone’s truck at the Toytec shop. It has 60k miles and has been in storage. i was told it’s gun metal gloss powder coat.

    I think turbos have gotten a bad name for reliability from people who don't know what they are doing. I'm shooting for the 300hp mark and hope to keep it reliable. Since it's custom though it's going to take some time to dial in everything but I believe it can be just as reliable as a SC.

    Only time will tell with a turbo, I’m the only one here with 600,000 superchargered miles with a TRD unit.
    So I know it’s reliability and when it needs to be rebuilt and what the motor can handle without any
    side effects of 10 pounds of boost.

    Wish I could go higher on the boost but at least I know it’s a safe number for me.

    Good luck on the turbo tho

    Oh, just the spinny rotor part. No I don't know that many people with SCs to be honest. Probably a few old folks with those SC buicks that are climbing high in the miles. I know of some 400k+ turbo cars though

    I got ya, I didn't think anyone would argue that the charger is the part that wouldn't hold up, my mind skipped right over that. They're just rotating rotors, the engine and tune is the important part of boosted reliability in my mind.

    It would be nice to see a 3.4 turbo Tacoma with some real number for durability with actual miles even if you could find one that has 100,000 mile mark, forget about the 500,000 mark.

    I would love a turbo but wouldn’t go that route because my truck is a daily driver and I have to have 100 percent reliability.

    I have seen plenty of turbo here and with plenty of endless problems even with the kits.

    If there was a kit as durable as the trd setup that would be completely different and I probably would have one but the turbo
    guys don’t have that available.

    Not sure you'll find many with that history, many folks seem to throw em on after lots of years and when it isn't their main vehicle anymore.

    A reliable turbo kit can be done but it's less common because it's pretty much all do it yourself and require some effort, so people decide to throw on the SC and just deal with the ping and the 6ish PSI. Then the SC and it's weird behavior turns them into the kind of people that might put on a turbo kit, because it'll make you do the effort to make it run right too despite being "bolt on". Either way these trucks are well into their cheapo years now so hopefully we'll start seeing more creativity with boost in the coming years.

    Im going to turbo my SX which is well past 350k on it. It is also my DD.

    For DD duty a turbo will be just as fine as a blower. It just takes more effort so it isn't as appealing, getting easier to do these days though. However, I would argue that if you offroad heavily, a supercharger is smarter. much less to go wrong with a roots blower, its just a simpler design.

    And I can say that because I have a blower, it is fun no doubt.

    The problem isn't the turbo, it's the ECU, which sucks a big donkey dick when it comes to boost. Even you had to do extra mods to make it run right(meth kit). The ECUs are also seemingly super not consistent. One guy won't have any issues...the next, pings all the time. Toyota updated the ECUs as much as every 3 months, so its also just a gamble. If you spend the time then a turbo will run just as long with the same maintenance on it. Plus much more effiecent. At 10psi on a GT35 sized turbo you'd be pushing 320+rwhp.

    I’ve owned an Audi turbo and a Porsche turbo, I KNOW what a turbo can do and my son has a new Subaru turbo WRX. I actually would prefer a turbo for sure but I need a plug and play setup for myself
    and there are none available for the 3.4. I’m more than happy with the supercharger,



    Again if there was a reliable plug and play kit would be different And yes the ECU
    will be a problem Anyway, in a state that does inspections more problems
