I like my Decked system and wanted it for security, not space, if you want space get an f250. Also considered weight and strength, my unit is about 185lbs empty and holds whatever rifles, handguns, and ammo I’m carrying, out of sight under three locks and not in the back seat for all to see. It takes less than 20 min to pull out and I haven't had one issue with moisture getting into the drawers, either with my pressure washer or going through the car wash, a little dust but thats about it.

I also don’t believe it’s a character flaw to own one. Not everyone is a carpenter and I pretty much moved on from carpet kits in the 70’s

What’s is the height between the deck and the top lip of the bed. Seems pretty shallow and have to strap everything down.

    Quite a lot!
I'm not a carpenter either and I am looking for a drawer set up the works well in the elements to run with a bed rack. I have a few question about the Decked system that maybe you and other owners can help answer...
How do the "ammo boxes" in the Decked system work with the bed cubbies and the AC power outlet?
Can you run just one drawer at a time?
Anyone running the Expedition Essentials Bedside Compressor mount and air compressor with the Decked system?
    **Pics please**

Use of the stock cans is lost once you install the Decked unit. So, you would need install any aux equipment in those before hand and then you’d not be able to access them unless you modified the unit, cut holes etc. You could also use the Decked cans for that purpose but if you wanted to remove the unit at some point all that plumbing would need to be disconnected.

My 2017 SR5 doesn’t have the aux power option but I understand there’s a pigtail you can add before the unit is installed that allows you to use it from inside the Decked ammo can?

You could feasibly run with one drawer but would need to remove some parts of the unit to be able to slide it out and remove it. The Tacoma Decked unit has one narrow on the drivers side and one wide drawer on the passenger side. I believe the TRD Aux Power option is located on the right rear and thats the side with the widest drawer.

If you have the ATRAC sys, I think its called, on your TRD Sport you could mount the compressor in the engine bay on the passenger side.

200 pounds is heavy and just takes away from your payload.

You can relocate the plug, and it’s much better than just an extension cord.

That's exactly why I wound up going with Decked. I'll agree that it's expensive, but I wouldn't call it overpriced... at least, I couldn't find anything comparable in the same price range. And the materials and build quality are well beyond the reach of your your average DIYer. If I had infinite time, money, and knowledge... I'd make something custom out of aluminum and fiberglass. And diamonds and gold I guess, but that shit isn't going to happen!

I put them together myself, for cheap ... and you can too, so long as you have basic knowledge of automotive electrical wiring and don't value your time at all! You can get rolls of adhesive-backed LED strip lights for super cheap at your favorite online retailer -- it used to be $5 per roll but I guess it's up to $10 now. Each roll is 16' and runs directly on 12V DC power. You can run it directly from your car's electrical system, and you can cut it at regular intervals along its length (every 3rd LED has a cut point).

Important: Get the kind that has a silicone overcoating for outdoor use.

I also recommend getting it in the "warm white" color because only cyborgs and drug addicts like the "cool white" color.

    :crapstorm:

Cut a length to go under each bed rail, then solder an appropriate length of two-conductor wire to go between each bed rail segment, then seal each splice with silicone (use "Silicone II," or the non acetic-acid type) and heat-shrink tubing. Make sure to mind the polarity, they won't work if you cross the wires, so make sure to check that they work before peeling off the adhesive backing. After adhering each strip under the bed rails, I added a mechanical cable clamp at each end of each strip (screwed securely into the fiberglass bedside) to keep the ends of the strips from delaminating... otherwise, they would have peeled off by now, because adhesive tape is universally terrible.

On the passenger side near the tailgate, the power wire gets routed through a hole in the bedside, to a switch in the cubby below. That's one of the reasons I immediately drilled a gigantic hole in the side of the DECKED "ammo can" there, so I could still access the panel where I installed this light switch. Also there, I have a 12V power socket, a duplex USB outlet, and additional switches for other auxiliary lighting as well as for my onboard water system pump.

On my truck, there is some additional circuitry including some timers, PIR motion sensors, and the key fob trigger for the dome lights -- all in hopes of making various lights turn on and off when I want them to. But the basic principal is the same: wire some LED strip lights to your battery through a switch.

I'll try to post some pictures here if I can find them, and at some point I'll copy this to my build log. Thanks for the inspiration to do a brief writeup.

About six and a half inches (or seventeen euros).

    measure.jpg

Love this approach!!! I considered doing something similar for my truck, but I'm not ready to make the Decked platform a "permanent" (hard-wired) setup. Even though the only reason I ever actually remove it is to redo the electrical or plumbing that it conceals!

Looks like your solution also serves to reinforce the rear bedside, which is apparently notoriously weak on these trucks. Awesome work!

    Thanks!

The decked system clears the bedside brackets without issue; the drawers too.

Love my Decked system on my 13’ RCLB work truck! Granted it’s a company rig so I didn’t have to pay for it or install it. I’ve got a commercial style canopy on it w bins on one side making access into the bed difficult when it’s packed full of material. The sliders make it easy to access stuff that otherwise I’d be digging thru parts to get to. They work good for holding small electrical items like wire it’s, screws, bolts, etc. Also drill motors & other power tools I want to keep dry & a little more secure.

I’ve considered one in my personal rig too. The flat surface would make a good bed for sleeping & the drawers would be nice to keep camp essentials in but it takes up so much space & I’d want to be able to easily remove it. Basic wood platform has worked good enough so far that I probably wouldn’t bother for that kind of money. Certainaly serves it’s purpose for work tho

I've had my decked system for a year now and I love it. I'm an electrician so it keeps my tools organized on the right side and consumables organized on the left. Only thing I would like to add is a cargo glide to the top so I don't have to crawl in the back of my truck to reach large materials and tools I only Cary when needed. Just my two cents.

Any other 3rd Gen TRD’s that have the outlet? Just interested in seeing other ways of setup. Or has @DECKEDUSA made provisions for this?

Did you know that CargoGlide is making a bracket special for the DECKED system now. Give them a call and order one up.

I love my Decked system. Keeps my backseat from getting all cluttered. Keeps my tools dry. Threw a roll up tonneau on top to keep leaves from getting down in the gaps. *Also works as real handy excuse why you can’t help, when people ask you to help them move.

And if there’s not enough sliding in your @DECKEDUSA system, @CaliRaisedLed can make a slide for the top.

okay, mine was custom, but I like it.

    Hello Guys,
New member here.. long time lurker but recently picked up an 07 access cab with low miles for a hunting truck build.
For me the DECKED system is awesome. Allows me to keep all necessities and trip specific items in the drawers and off the bed.
Plenty of room to sleep two people as well.
I’ve used this on two duck hunting trips so far (only had the truck since beginning of December) pull the decoys out and roll out the bed roll and I’m good to go!

Fat Bob's lift kit, 30's on stock steelies, lunchbox locker in the rear, and a ton of other general mods and additions to help the utility of the truck for my particular uses.
Like and dislike the decked system all at the same time. my biggest beef with it is the underutilized space and the fact it doesn't butt up against the tailgate. I did end up building my own from plywood. It didn't take long, has full access to all areas, and completely rests against the tailgate bedrug. As for weatherproofing I just sealed all wood with a rubberized coating. It has been just fine.

can you make a model that allows more use of the bed, like a lower profile so the hauling ability is not 100% compromised, I think it would sell better than the model available that is offered now that hogs the bed completely and lower cost

We understand your concerns with the leftover bed space. While it definitely compromises the ability to haul, we would have to argue the statement that it compromises 100% of that ability. While we do know that there has to be something given up to have the system, we are aware of the desire for a shorter system, and it is on the long list our engineers have compiled.
