A friend gets a new, in the box, set of step rails for a 2018 and older. She mounts the brackets to her 2019 Taco first only to find out the holes of the rails do not match up. They are about a 1/2" off and cannot be slid either way to fit.

I guess it is safe to assume that 2018 step rails for a Taco does NOT fit a 2019 Taco or has the brackets been mounted incorrectly.

I did a search before asking this and found nothing for these years of trucks and step rails.

I bought running boards for my 18 tacoma access cab and the box was labeled 15-18 year model access cab tacoma and it fit ok. As long as it is the same body aka double cab short bed, access cab long bed, etc and the same generation, it should fit.

Were these OEM rails? I have a 2019 and bought OEM rails off of a 2017 and had zero bolt alignment issues. Extremely unlikely that a car manufacture would change bolt locations for something like this in the middle of a body style.

Also good to know some running board mounting brackets are left right specific. Mine were labeled that way even though the bolt hole pattern fit both sides.

Yes OEM rails. She will recheck her work today, she thinks she has probably done something wrong. Thanks for the confirmation.

Happy to announce she found the fix and it was quite simple. She loosened the brackets but left them attached to the frame. Mounted the rails onto the brackets, tightened them ... THEN tightened the brackets to the frame. I'll now know how to mount my rock rails next week on my 2007 FJ Cruiser.
