Folks. Got my first Tacoma in August after 30 years of Nissan trucks (2 of them). My "new" truck is a 2006 base, 4wd, 5spd, access cab, with just 70.000 miles. I'm interested in swapping the rear standard differential with an LSD. My questions are:
Is it possible? Is it practical?, Where do I shop for it? What are the approximate costs involved?

    Thank you all.

Detroit True Trac all the way. It’s a Torsen so you never have to worry about clutches wearing or adding friction modifiers.

It’s about $400 for the unit. I installed my locker myself so can’t comment on labor price but if you can pull the pumpkin yourself that would probably at least half the cost

I 2nd the trutrac best LSD you can get imho. I love mine I paid 475ish free shipping off eBay during one of their sales. Install depends on the shop shouldn’t take more than 3-4 hours of labor at most.

I neglected to thank you all for the suggestions. My apologies.
Now I have to check with my chief financial officer (a.k.a my wife of 30+ years) about moving forward with the upgrade.
    Thanks again.

I bring up such "upgrades" just after finishing a repair or upgrade to the home........betters my chance of approval.

hx989. You mentioned that you installed the locker yourself. If you have the time, can you please share with us any tips you may have? Anything to look for, anything to avoid, etc.
It would be, I think, very useful information for those of us willing to take on such endeavor.

    Many thanks. ...and stay safe.
