Cool deal Nathan. Have you had anybody do a Stoptech BBK kit with your Tundra master yet?

I haven't. My kit is the Tundra booster with a GM master. The ratio between the GM master piston and the caliper piston would need to be looked at to see if it's a good match.

Anyone here know of a good shop in the Crofton/Annapolis area to install my lift. I don’t have all the parts yet but would like to get with a shop and figure out costs. Thanks in advance!

I just cant help but think that those massive pistons in those stoptech calipers cant be adequately managed by a stock taco master

It comes down to the area of the pistons in the calipers. If stoptech uses multiple smaller pistons instead of one large piston the volume of fluid needed won't change.

Welcome to the forum and the Kool Kidz thread Joseph! :hattip:

There might be some guys in the thread here willing to help on a weekend or whatever for less than a shop would charge. Be patient and I'm sure they will chime in. Myself, I would be in your shoes and would need to rely on others that know what the hell they are doing. I have only supervised once and barely got my hands dirty when mine was done on my previous Taco.

Are you replacing everything - Upper Control Arms, Coilovers, Rears, Leafs? Maybe even Lower Control Arms? One thing that is recommended is to not go over 3" on these 3rd gens. It tends to change the driveline angles too much and then you have to do additional mods to get it back to OEM spec. Also, I would assume you intend to add larger tires? You need to consider how big you intend to go and what you're willing to do to accommodate them. You will have to pay special attention to things like the wheel offset and backspacing, and how that relates to the diameter and width of your tires. Plan on getting an alignment too. If you go too big on your tires you may need things like a cab mount chop (aka CMC) mod, and/or the pinch weld mod. Some guys just go big enough to only need to heat up the the fender liners so they can be pushed away from where the tire rubs them. One of the more common mods is a preventive measure done at the same time. We replaced the drivers side axle needle bearing with a East Coast Gear Supply (aka ECGS) axle bushing. Again, you will need special tools to do this mod. A lot of smaller shops aren't going to know what this is unless they specialize in Tacoma work and have heard of us or ECGS.

It's a slippery slope for sure so it's best to have all your ducks in a row and plan ahead for everything. Especially if your truck is your daily driver.

But yea, talking to a reliable 4X4 oriented shop is a good start. I know for a fact, if nothing else, places like 4Wheel Parts will certainly do all this for you.

I would think like Mason is saying, you increase the rolling mass, the rotor diameter, and ultimately the brake pad size, you would have to compensate for that with more pressure. Or are you saying that more smaller pistons is equal to more pressure if you had the same size pistons and everything else was increased??

I'm Rob by the way and I ask a lot of questions. But only because I like to learn about stuff. :D Definitely not to be a smart ass.

The pedal feel is changed by the ratio of the mc piston area to the caliper piston area. The size of the brake pad really doesn't affect all that much. Too small of a mc piston with a large caliper piston will lead to a soft pedal that goes to the floor before stopping. A large mc piston with a small caliper piston can result in a tall hard pedal that doesn't do anything. There's a happy medium between the two.

Thanks for the info. I really don’t want to do anything major. I’m waiting to get the front struts off a 2019 pro, and already have rear shocks. But yes this is my daily driver and was thinking of doing just a 1” leveling kit up front and maybe a 1” block in the rear. Would I need to do the ECGS for what I’m planning?

So do you have any inclination of what would be best with the stoptech bbk? Tacoma master, 4/5th gen 4runner master, or Tundra master?

I don’t hear anything conclusive yet Rob. I do love to hear you and Mason and the rest of the smart guys talk about it though. So get your slide rule, micrometer and all your other tools out and keep working on it. I still haven’t heard The Godfather weigh in yet. Nathan, he is too a smart ass, don’t let him kid you!:)

Can you find the specs on the calipers? We'll need the area of the piston(s) in one caliper to figure out a good fit as far as MC goes.
