aimpoint or eotech

Hey guys I am at a crossroads in life...I am ready to upgrade optics on my m&p 15. I can't quite make up my mind so I would like some opinions, I have narrowed it down to the aimpoint compc3 or the eotech xps2-0. I know both are great optics and both will co-witness with my troy buis. What would you guys choose and why?

 

I have an aimpoint Comp3 2MOA and it's very nice. I have troy sights now too and it can be used with them as you mentioned. I went with Aimpoint over Eotech because of the longer battery life and the durability of the unit. I've heard that eotech's can start to break down after a lot of abuse, but Aimpoints are bradley proof lol. How much of that I actually beleive, well I let you guess that but I like my Aimpoint and the mount. The two sights are different in that one has a halo around the dot and the other is just a dot, but I've used to shooting with a dot only for some time. If you haven't had a dot style sight on anything before you may find it hard to get used to the aimpoint at first.

Now is that to say I would never buy an Eotech? I plan on buying one for my shotgun in the distant future, so yes I would own one I think they look cool and work well. Either one will benefit you're setup.

 

Having used both I prefer shooting with the EO tech but they are quite finicky, but mine held up after 11 months bouncing around in a turret.

 

Not that i'm argueing with you, but why do you prefer the eotech?

 

why the smaller EO tech? just for the smaller size?


the 512 is a pretty popular model. its a little cheaper and has a longer battery life

Its a better reflex sight, IMO easier to shoot ambidextrous using it, allows ability to keep both eyes open allowing to keep perifs. Which should also be the case with aimpoint. But I spent most of time training with/ using the EO and personally prefer it.

 

I was leaning toward aimpoint because of the life of the battery. What type of mount is that? Have you had any problems with the quick detach mount ever coming loose?

 

I'm wanting the shorter eo because I don't have that much space to spare on my rails. I want to leave plenty of room for clearence between they optic and buis. Also I just like the looks of the xps series better.

 

A.R.M.S. Tri lock. This think is rock solid, you could hold the gun by it with no ill effects. If I were to get another Aimpoint for another gun, it would be this or LaRue \storry

 

Have you tried taken it off and putting it back on to see if it maintains zero?

 

You need to go to a good gun shop and check the two out in person. I had my heart set on an Aimpoint-I was going to buy one for sure. Then I checked them out and didn't like the tunnel vision I got so I went with the Eotech. The Aimpoint is probably 'better' but it didn't fit me.

 

Aimpoint has a slight blue tint to the glass and you see ithe inside of the tube if you look for it. Once you start using it you dont notice the inside of the tube and the tint is not that big a deal. In oevery other way the Aimpoint is better. You never have to turn it on becasue you can leave it on for years. Its more reliable. Its easier to adjust the illumination on the fly, etc. Most of the guys in my dept use EOtech because its cheaper. Id get an ML3 2 MOA if money is a concern. The Micro Aimpoints are nice but there are not that many mounts that allow absoloute cowitness height. I prefer absoloute cowitness becasue I put my cheek on the stock. Using a HK416 mount puts it a lil too low.

I have a strong dislike for ARMS mounts. They are not adjustable and I have seen em too tight and too loose. Larue is adjustable and is better. Bobro has auto adjusting mounts and are techincally the best.

 

I like the aimpoint better personally, it just works for me, plus you can keep that thing on for some obsene amount of time and not lose the battery. You are talkign about the M&P 15 .22, right? I would not get wither of those expensive sights for a .22, a $50 one does just fine, truly.

 

i had to make that tough decision as well and wound up with an eotech. after playing with both, i found the eotech slightly quicker and i felt it was easier.

 

EOTECH all the way!!! ,, thats the only optic my Unit will use.

 

Nope, I'm talking about the M&P 15 optics ready. Although I do also have the M&P15 .22, but I have a Bushnell Trophy mounted on it.

That's tough here to do in the part of Alabama I live in. There's not many dealers close to home that sell Aimpoint or EOTECH. Most of them sell the lower end stuff. But I definetly plan on having a hands on experience before I make my decision.
