Rolling in the company Diesal F350 today. 201,xxx miles and runs and drives perfect. I am a fan of Ford, but the thing is big.

 

It sounds to me like the dealer has been receptive to correcting the problems so far. I haven't read all 5 pages, so maybe I missed something. I would give them another chance to make it right. I've been working on my own vehicles since I was 17. Everything from engine rebuilds to oil changes. Mechanic work isn't always as simple as it seems, and sometimes things go wrong. I've had to redo my own work because of things like this, and I'm OCD careful. One thing that people don't realize is that brand new parts are often bad right out of the box. These days I inspect and test as much as I can, before I install. The list of new parts that I have personally bought that were bad is LONG: U-joint, thermostat (several), MAP sensor, ignition switch, throwout bearing, and the list goes on. It could be the seal was bad. It could be that just cleaning the brake on that side was not a good idea. I would want a fouled brake pad replaced. It could have glazed your drum, and the seal could be fine.

I know that three trips in for repair is a PITA, but my suggestion is to not get belligerent, and give them the benefit of the doubt. Be thankful you aren't dealing with a problem that you can't get straight. If they can't get it right this time, go to a mechanic you trust and contact Toyota corporate as suggested.

 

I took the opportunity to look under the truck this morning and saw no damage whatsoever. How could the axle shaft be bent but the outside part of the rear diff is undamaged? My truck has taken one impacts to the rear end since the second seal blew (I was driving on a narrow road while doing Doordash, went off the road, and the left side of the axle made contact with a drain pipe; I think it sounded a lot worse than it actually was). It has not taken any impacts to the rear end since this third one was installed.

 

These axles are pretty tough, it takes a lot to bend one. If you do have a bend, it should show up on a 4 wheel alignment. The dealer could throw it on the rack and have a look if a bend is suspected.

 

The front wheels were aligned in September, but because the steering wheel was really far to one side.

 

What the heck is a notched bearing?

 

A bent bearing? The dealer gave me a new one for free...

Most places charge $20 for a rotation if you didn’t buy the tires from the place or otherwise noted in a Xxxx mile service.

 

there’s plenty of shops in the area to have your truck serviced especially for stickers... unsure why you still go to the stealership

 

I took it to the dealer to get inspected because they actually gave me a good deal on that. $60 for emissions and safety, and a free loaner. After this most recent screwup with my rear axle seal I'm done with the stealership!

 

I've seen PLENTY of dealers use an impact to put wheels back on and never use a torque wrench afterwards. They are no different than gas stations in that aspect

 

Ah gotcha ... well I have my own gripes with dealerships ( like not properly fixing my brakes ) service ( bought mine at Faulkner Toyota trevose ) and now I’ll be paying a local shop to properly fix the issue.

My truck blew the left rear axle seal sometime between getting inspected (September 2019) and Halloween. The only indication my truck gave of something being wrong was that the truck squeaked excessively when braking from speeds above 35 MPH. Oil and/or grease leaked into the left rear brake drum and because it went undetected for so long, the left rear brake was destroyed. Because the brakes had about 22K miles on them, they had to replace the right rear brake to even it out. Well, the technician who worked on my truck neglected to mention that I had a "notched" wheel bearing and replaced the axle seal without properly addressing this. Within a day, the new seal blew out. The truck started squeaking again and I brought it to my independent mechanic. He pulled the rear brakes apart and found the left brake to be full of axle gunk. I called the dealer, told them I wasn't happy, and drove the truck there. The technician apparently admitted to not notifying anybody of bearing issue and was read the riot act, and the dealer replaced both the bearing and the seal for free. The rear brake was not damaged, and thus salvageable, because it was caught in time.

Within days, it was squeaking again. I called the dealer and have an appointment to bring it back again on Monday, December 2nd. I am currently visiting family in Virginia and my truck is sitting in my driveway back home. I will have the dealer replace the axle seal for free, but I'm having my mechanic replace anything else the truck may need (the diff breather is a chief culprit here) because he will charge significantly less.

 

My cousin rear-ended somebody in his 2009 Toyota RAV4 AWD earlier this year (First at-fault accident ever). The damage amounted to about $1,700. He was living in the Outer Banks (North Carolina) at the time, and took his RAV4 to a body shop recommended by his insurance company (USAA). The body shop took 47 days to fix the damage (New right front fender and front bumper, and some other stuff). He was forced to rent a car when his area was evacuated for Hurricane Dorian.

When he finally got his RAV4 back, he was given two choices; Pay cash and pay the normal amount, or pay with a credit card and pay a $150 "convenience fee" on top of the normal amount. My cousin, like most normal people, does not carry almost two grand in cash around. He very begrudgingly paid the convenience fee, but not before reading the body shop the riot act. For starters, he told them flat out that he thought the convenience free was bullshit. He also told them that because they'd taken almost fifty days to fix his vehicle, he would not be recommending them to anybody.

Seriously? A goddamn "convenience fee"? I've seen small-time vendors who either won't accept credit cards under $5 or $10, or who charge an exorbitant fee for using a credit card for any amount. But charging a $150 "convenience fee" when you're already getting almost two grand is ridiculous!

The guy who fixed my Tacoma after I got hit by a drunk driver certainly didn't charge a "convenience fee" when I paid with a credit card, and he fixed the $2,200 in damage to my truck in about 3 or 4 days...

I cannot believe that we are almost two decades into the 21st century, and people are still being charged to use a credit card!

The roughly $18 "gift ticket fee" for a Greyhound Bus ticket comes to mind here...

I've said before and I will say it again; I loved who I worked with at the detail shop (and I still miss them), but that's about it!

When people become cops or doctors, or join the military, they know full well that they will have to work on or around holidays...

I never had to work on holidays at the detail shop, but I had to work on the days around them, which required a lot of careful sweet-talking in order to get anything even remotely resembling a holiday vacation! Days we had to work included:

• Labor Day
  
• Thanksgiving Eve
• Black Friday
• Christmas Eve
• New Year's Eve
• Memorial Day (both Saturday and actually on Memorial Day)

I never knew if we had to work the 4th of July because I started work in early September and left on June 29th. Pretty much, the work schedule completely obliterated my personal life. Initially, I was required to work Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; However, I worked 3:30 to 9pm on Fridays and had to be at work at 7:50am on Saturdays. This left absolutely no relaxation time. I got permission from my boss to work Tuesdays instead of Fridays, and the hours were later changed to 2:30pm-8pm. Thursdays and Fridays were still absolutely useless as days off, because, guess when all the car shows were?!?! Saturdays! When do people typically go out drinking (at least my friends)? Friday night! When are most birthday parties and family gatherings? Saturdays!

Absolutely nobody I know, part-time or full-time, had to work every Saturday in 2018-2019!

As a result of my life-obliterating work schedule, I became quite bitter and irritable, and lashed out at my parents when they wanted me to help them do something. I also had a terminally ill puppy at the time, and I was robbed of precious time with her. We adopted Mandy less than a month after I got the job at the detail shop, and had to put her to sleep due to failing kidneys two days after I quit that job.

It also would have been nice if we either got paid hourly or a much higher flat rate, but we didn't...

 

That’s called life my man. Sometimes you have to work holidays, and weekends. If you want ever holiday, weekend, and summer off become a teacher.

 

I never minded working Saturdays as a barback! I am also strangely looking forward to working weekends as an HVAC technician.
