    @ the OP:
It's fine. The gearing is geared towards fuel economy so when you are cruising at moderate speeds the engine barely cranks over. You can't expect a lightning fast surge when you hit the gas pedal. Like with all automatics, it needs to react, which takes a bit of time. But I drive mine like a truck and have no complaints.

@ the MT owners who go out of their way to promote their transmission choice:
OP is asking about the automatic, not your manual. I'm getting sick and tired of guys fouling up just about every thread they can find to jokingly justify their transmission choice.
People should be able to buy whatever they want and ask questions about it without fearing being judged by fellow Tacoma owners. The 'manual is better than an Automatic' mantra is getting old. If someone has questions about something you don't have, just move on.
I don't ridicule your colour choice because it does not meet my personal preference. Just because I have an Off Road doesn't mean I hate a Sport or Pro.

This is seriously the first forum where like-minded enthusiasts of a specific brand/model attack each other like this.

My manual never hunts, its great! And that 4.30 gearing......:deadhorse:

In reply to OP. I have heard that 2020 got a tune revision. Physically everything drivetrain is the same in the truck for 2020.

My only experience was riding in a friends 2016, and test driving an auto 17 before my purchase. The auto truck is geared more like an economy car in my opinion. It feels gutless. Also the transmission response was horrendous in my friends, always lugging, hunting and with a dead feel in the accelerator.

Maybe check OVtunes progress with his tune for automatics. But you cant fix crappy gearing. Unless you change it and accept any tradoffs. (Such as the MTs shitty MPG)

Good to see the manual drivers finally unstraddled their center console to chime in here. Good for them.

No hunting with mine. Still really new though, have only run a couple tanks of fuel through it.

You should roll over to arfcom and watch the onslaught against each other for liking something. Its comical but I do agree with you on this subject.

My 2020 trans is fine. You just gotta remember it's a truck and the auto trans will take a couple seconds from when you floor it to be in the proper gear to get your power out of a WOT. If you don't immediately floor it, it's fine. Or use ECT if you need faster response, but ECT will cause it to prematurely jump down a gear with minimal throttle change. No hunting issues like the 2016 tundra I had did on cruise control.

When i test drove the 2016s and early 2017s i felt the transmission hunted a lot more than when I recently drove a buddies 2020. It's a lot more refined now, maybe with the software/ECU updates. I would have been more inclined to go with the auto if this was the case a few years ago when I was in the market

But 3-pedal owners get to enjoy the inconvenience of fumbling around for an ignition key, don’t have JBL sound or crawl control:)

Quite a few things at this point..
My 2019 AT doesn't hunt and never did. I have yet to experience this "hunting" in any AT Tacoma I've been in. I feel like it's just become a thing of myth like thinking dressing warm will keep a cold away, no a virus is a virus and warm clothing isn't gonna stop it. I don't think people who "feel" it know what they're talking about. Plus I've heard it goes away from most those who claimed to have had it at one point on their new truck
