Like others I may be running a different set or wheels for winter. Does anyone know if the 2012+ TPMS disable mod works for our 3rd gen?

The method used to disable TPMS on the 2012-2015 Tacoma will not work on the 2016-2020 Tacoma. That said, not all Tacomas have TPMS, so it seems to me that it should be possible to disable the TPMS.

The issue is that TPMS is much more integrated into the 2016+ Tacoma. For instance, if you removed the TPMS ECU, it would also disable the keyless entry system. There is a separate keyless entry ECU on trucks without TPMS. That would only work if your truck doesn't have smart key though, because there are no Tacomas with smart key but without TPMS.

I haven't investigated the entire system either, that is just an example.

Dang it, Jeff, which Tacos don't have TPMS?

I've got the parts ready for my TPMS bomb and you go and throw me a curve ball....

I say bite the bullet. Tire shops only charge for the hardware, they can set them and at least 2019 has a reset button.

    Get the sensors.

The information is accurate and useful.

And I myself was an early hater and rebel of TPMS.

I had a TPMS bomb in my LS460 and I was shocked it worked. You thinking it'll work for our Taco?

I thougt they all had TPMS. The Sr and Sr5 have just a light, and the others have the digital pressure readout. This is for 2016 plus I thought.:notsure:
Of course, I have been known to be wrong and not afraid to say so.

    I have a Gashole
I also thought it was now a federal safety requirement to have them in all new vehicles.
    Am I imagining that?
Looks like light pickups are excluded from the requirement:

In the US they all have TPMS. In Canada they don’t.

I can look into what it will take to disable TPMS, but it might be a few days.

It's just a light on your dashboard...Ignore it. You know why it's on so it is of no concern. The truck does not care that the light is on and everything else works just fine. I have done this with my Tacoma, F150, Mazda 5, Chevy volt, and Chevy bolt. I just have to make sure they get their annual inspection with the wheels on that have TPMS.

My TPMS is in my glovebox, and my walking up to the truck and looking at the tires. :canada:

Makes switching to winters quite easy and cheap!

My Sr5 has a digital readout of the pressures.

Unless I'm misunderstanding this statement, the SR5 has the pressure readout on the dash cluster. It's a light within the gauge cluster as well as the tire pressure menu option in the little info panel. Or did I just misunderstand the question/statement?

New sensors aren't expensive, about 1/2 the cost of one new tire for a set of 4. Any tire store will install them free when mounting your new tires.

    https://www.amazon.com/MOBILETRON-M...37------------&vehicleName=2016+Toyota+Tacoma

Disabling the system is a really bad idea, it works, it saves lives. It is not a replacement for an air pressure gauge, it is meant to warn you of a sudden tire deflation while driving. A working TPMS will give you a few seconds to slow down and get to the shoulder of the road after hitting debris in the road that punctures your tire. Much better than having the tire come apart at 70 mph.

I did not know the SR5 had that. Very nice.
