Leveling question 2019 off-road, 3" spacer ? Any reason?

Good day good folks of TW

Like most without the fundamental knowledge I have some concerns regarding lift kits as it applies Ito the off-road vs. the sport and why some vendors say some kits wont fit 2019 trd off-road models. I have been reading for a while I cant see why a 3 inch spacer wouldn't fit, other than diff drop andc3 degree shims I understand there are sacrifices. What is required for a 3 inch spacer lift, shims, diff drop, maybe?

All input welcome. Educate me. Or just tell me I'm a loser either way I'll learn

 

Why 3 inches and why a spacer lift?

 

Hey there GBT I mostly drive on the hard surfaces, and I figured go three inch because it seemed to be the maximum, I am reading more indepth and it seems there is a thing with the 2019 offroads posssibly not accepting previous years Spacer kits. I am wondering if it is because there needs to be a diff drop and 3 degree shims or can I get away with the three inch lift for mostly highway driving, I am having Toyota TRD Rims and 265 75 r16 Duratracs installed this afternoon and was going to install the 3 inch kit I bought, But... There is no diff drop or 3 degree shims, mostly going for looks on a budget until I can afford the Bilstein 5100s and an add a leaf.

Complete newb to the offroad world, I considered machining 1/2 inch off the front passenger and 5/8" inch off the drivers to compensate for taco lean that I do not really seem to see with the naked eye, but I still can't find out why the sports and offroad trd'd prior to 2019 are different, I have nothing to compare too, and I am fairly certain I can fit this kit. The front strut spacers are 1.5" shave off 1/2" to equal a 2 inch lift in the front or leave it?

If you want 3" and you want to run spacers go with the ReadyLift.

 

Thanks for the Reply Jon, I have looked at many options, is there a reason that Ready lift is better? I see that even where I am in Toronto Ontario there are no, "Just strut spacer kits" for 2019 Tacoma Offroad models, I think it has something to do with the 1" factory lift from factory, I see kits with skid plate spacers and diff drops and without. I really want to discover if the diff and skid plate drop is required.

Go to ReadyLift and read about them. I'm by no means an expert. I told my Toyota dealer what I used my truck for. Driving to work and to the mall. They suggested ReadyLift 3/2 kit. I had it installed and loved it.

I no longer have that truck but had zero complaints.

The kit will work great on your 2019.

 

If you're doing a 3 inch lift I believe you need UCA's to get a proper alignment.

Only the pro has a 1 inch lift compared to other models.

 

I really wouldn't run a 3" spacer lift unless you are strictly for looks and on the pavement. Once you go above 2.5", you max out the upper control arm for alignment. If you're wanting something inexpensive until you have more funds then I would stick with a 2" leveling kit. A leveling kit also saves you from messing with the rear axle. Once you save up some cash, then look into something like Bilstein or an Old Man Emu kit that's a little bit better. This also gives you time to run your truck and to see how much off roading you really do.

 

You're going down that rabbit hole. Your 265's will look small with a 3" lift. Then you'll want 285's but you'll also then need UCA's.

Yep you're on your way.

 

You could also try giving Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road a call. Let her know your budget and what you want now and what you want down the road. More than likely she'll have an idea for you.

Hi Jon I went to the ready lift site and did some reading, I am thanking everyone on the thread here because all the advice coalesced into go down a .5" inch to a 2.5" lift front and rear.

I kept the 2 inch blocks and bought 2" spacers from BDS, I still have the three inch but Maybe I can turn them down to a 1 or two inch kit. Thanks for the heads up Jon!

You are correct, I would have been still working on the install under a few inches of ice rain, cause Toronto has no shortage of crap weather, Thanks a ton brother.

Did just this, thank you for offering your honest opinion, it helps a lot in the face of some who clearly are denying the short falls of a 3 inch spacer kit etc.

LMAO!!! so true, I predicted the tires looking small so I went with a 265 75 r 16, with the 2.5" spacers in the front and the 2 inch blocks in the rears its about perfect for me. Slight rub just before full lock.

I predict kings or some kind of remote reservoir shock, I want the stadium truck ride

@GBT thanks for correcting me on the one inch lift only being on the pro, now I sound like less of an idiot talking shop!

 

I have a 19 dclb off road. I have a revtek 3" spacer with a diff drop and aal. On pavement its like stock. But off road it is very stiff. I use and abuse it off road for work and so far its holding up. I should have spent the extra grand on a better set up. If you dont plan to take it off road then it's not a bad deal. I got 255/85/16 tires and it looks great.

 

255 85's eh? maybe I will try that once the duratracs give up. I have learned a bit from this... event. Including how in Late November Southern Ontario it is possible to install suspension parts in ice rain conditions as long as you have a Salamander to keep the truck and tools warm. 4 liters of Kerosene, not sure how many brain cells, and the sound that heater makes is a lot like white noise which puts me to sleep so most of it was like a dream.

Truck looks awesome, only a confident few approach and compliment Toyota's Engineering, while we all know that everyone loves these trucks. Even if seeing for the first time.
They are utilitarian toys for the confident who need not an extension of their manly hood. I grew up on a homestead, the family truck was a POS ford f100 that did EVERYTHING!. My Tacoma is 3 times as capable and a 10 times more comfortable. I glad they feel like and sound like trucks should. I would die for my Tacoma... ish

 

At work (civil construction) my counterparts drive lifted f250s and Ram 2500s, so its definitely been a test for my humble toyota to be able to keep up with them. My skids plates are bashed and my drive shaft is scratched up., but that damn taco doesnt give up.
