    3" lift kit. 17" wheels and tires, custom grill, full technology package, Early model running boards, Push bar.
    Bottom line, there is always some balance between price and performance or lifetime, etc etc.
    Any opinions on what that would be for a 17" tire?

    I have a 3rd gen TRD offroad, with 3" lift and 17" wheels.
    I have decided I am installing 285-70-17 tires on my 17" aftermarket wheels.
    Not much offroad, not much snow. Mostly city driving/highway 50/50.

    Example a great price if an Kumho Tire, like 156.00 bucks per tire.
    I use these on my sportscars and they are great for the money but not sure if they are any good for a LT application

    Lots of decent quality tires out there in that price range

    Biggest question is load range......SL..C......or E LT's

    Visual appearance on your truck too....what do you want it to look like ?

    Just put some 16" LT Goodyear UT's on the '05

    If you're getting LT, I suggest not skimping on price. A rough, hard-to-balance tire is bad. A rough, hard-to-balance 10 ply tire on a light truck is worse.

    10 ply 285's will be very heavy tires too. keep that in mind. you're trying to save a few bucks on tires but are about to start spending more on fuel.

    It's a bit of a different look, but I'd recommend considering 255/75r17. It's a pretty common Jeep size. several 6 ply options on the market. lots lighter than 285's. they will track better on the road. your brakes will work better. They still fill out the lifted wheel well nicely. You could probably find a new set of Jeep take-off used for dirt cheap. You can around here, anyways.

    Cooper AT3 LT or XLT’s. I run the 285’s and yes they are E load, but they are super smooth and they do not ride harsh at all.

    This is great info guys.
    I run now a Goodyear Wrangler SR-A 255-75-17 tire and its a good tire and more of a highway tread, but at 31.1 inches tall and only 10" wide,
    its just not quite wide or tall enough for me.
    I thought on my set up the 285-70-17 at 32.7' x 11" might be perfect.
    I had also considered the 275-70-17 at 32.2 x 10.8" as a second choice.
    I'm not real up on the LT tire vs the non-LT and I am not locked into either one, just happed to mention LT.
    I kind of like the aggressive tread design look with blackwall out but not sure if the aggressive look will also translate to it
    being louder or wearing faster? Obviously would like the best mix of quiet, mileage, look, and tread life.

    Weird. That size should be 32”+. They’re always taller and skinnier than 265/70r17.

    LT means it’s 6, 8, or 10 ply. much stronger sidewalks too. Non-LT means it’s a car tire and you’re going to get flats

    Yes sorry, correction, the tire I run now: 255-75-17 is 32.1" tall and 10" wide.
    The new tire I want to go to: 285-70-17 is slightly taller and wider at: 32.7" tall and 11.2" wide.

    Sounds like an L/T tire is a better way to go but perhaps in a lesser ply like 6 or 8??
    I'm guessing from what I'm deducing from this that a non L/T tire being more like a car tire, is going to be the
    equivalent of a L/T type tire in a less ply's version, would that be correct?
