The bounce is completely gone, I don't carry any weight in the bed either so the stock bounce was bad. Freeway speed and hit a bump and it just soaks it up and moved right along. I'm really happy with the 6112/5160 setup. I've had 5100's before on another truck and they were good for the price. These I would totally recommend going with.

I need some help. I am completely new to this. I have a 2016 DCSB SR5. I got the 5160/6112s with Med Dakars and SPC UCA. Everything is currently sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. I got this set up because it was affordable and I wanted something a little nicer for over-landing/camping.

Do I need any spacers or shims and what should I be setting the fronts? I'd like to do it the right way and I'd like to do it once. (if spacers are the way to go, I'll get them. Like most of you, my truck is my baby) I'd like a smooth ride as we only go camping a few times a year but when we do we load up the bed pretty good, including a RTT on a ARE shell. The rest of the time it's my daily driver.

What size tires can/should I run with said recommended settings? Wheels are 17" TRD Pros I picked up during the 40% sale. (I've been reading like crazy and there are just so many variables) I'd like to avoid having to do a CMC if at all possible.

    Thank you all in advance.

    1. A 1/4" spacer is generally used on top of the driverside 6112 to help with the taco-lean. They come in a 1/4" size and a 3/8" size. Which ever one you use it will double the size of the spacer in lift. So 1/4" spacer = 1/2" in lift etc.

    2. Shims are for the rear. Since you are adding in the med dakar pack it will raise your rear end and make your driveline angles increase. Since you have a DCSB (unfortunately every taco is different), you might need to add shims to prevent driveline vibration. Start with a carrier bearing drop first and measure your driveline angles before the lift, after the carrier bearing drop, and after the lift (dakars) is put in to see what angle shims you can put in to minimize vibe. Some use 2° shims some use 3°. There are many threads on how to measure driveline angles just run a quick search. This can be kind of a pain in the ass but if you want to do it right without an vibes, then it will be needed with any lift you are doing with the truck.

    3. Most people start off by going with a 265/70R17 tire (32") to start. It is bigger than stock but will still give you a good ride without any other modifications needing to be done. Some jump right up to a 33" and then they find out it is a little heavy or they might need a cab mount chop.

Going to be ordering mine for my '97 Tacoma 4WD 3.4l extracab, this weekend from Wheeler's. Thinking of getting 650# springs, because I have an All Pro Baja bumper to install and their full set of skids. . Both together weigh about 120 lbs. Is there a difference, between the Bilstein, Kings and Eibach springs? Thinking of just getting the Bilstein springs.

Huge difference. If you are going with the 6112's, please use the 650 springs made from Bilstein for the 6112. Any other springs will void your warranty and don't go over 650lb springs.

Interested in getting Bilstein 6112 Strut and Coil Combination and Bilstein 5160 Remote Reservoir Rear Shocks but not sure what notch setting for the strut assembly, if I do or do not need UCA's and or AAL for them. Looking to run 285/70/R17 Toyo Open Country AT II's and have my truck level. Any and all experience in this would be greatly appreciated. TIA!!

If you want to run the 285's, may I suggest an AAL in the rear, notch 5 on the 6112's, and JBA uca's. This should level you nicely, but with the 285's you may need a CMC. Not too sure with the 3rd gens.

CMC? I was looking at HS for the complete kit. (Pic below) it has options for single and 3 AAL options. I’m just kinda stuck because I’m not too savvy considering I’ve never done a lift before.

This would be perfect for the truck. It has the 1/4" spacer for the drivers side top hat 6112, and headstrong can assemble the 6112's and put them together for you on the notch you need. A CMC is a cab mount chop. When you upgrade to a 33" tire like a 285, it may rub against the frame when turning.

@nate_scarbrough you may want to start off with a smaller tire to start and work up to a 33. It may give you a better sense of what you want before you go extreme. Getting into 33 and up can start focusing on bad gas mileage and sluggishness without a regear but you have an OR so you should be ok for now. I believe you have 4.10 gears in you truck. UCA'S aren't 100% needed but very recommended. JBA is the way to go and it is easier to get them installed with your lift all at the same time.

I would agree with this. Consider starting off smaller, see where it takes you. Trying to run that size tire can lead to a bunch of other things you may need to or want to address. But it’s your truck, and if you know that’s what you want, then there are plenty who have done it and all the info you need can be found in this forums.

Ive had 265/70/R17 on stock suspension since I’ve owned it and don’t rub or even come close to rubbing. Wanting a lift and 33s aren’t too much bigger than what I have now. Getting 16-18 mpg with 265s

I completely understand about the 265's. It is your prerogative to move up to 285s. They may not be that much bigger but the weight of the tire and turning under reverse articulation can rub.

Edit: My browser didnt show me the responses already.
If you have 17s, then go 275/70R17. Its a 32 inch tire. Fits good on the truck.

Alright so I went ahead and ordered Bilstein 6112 Strut and Coil Combination and Bilstein 5160 Remote Reservoir Rear Shocks on headstrong I only had the option to order strut assembly in 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, and 5/6 options. I went ahead and ordered it with 4/5 strut position but I want them both to be in the #4 position and I’m going to order a Pro Comp 1/4" thick 1/2" Lift Driver Side Lean Correcting spacer for it. I haven’t seen anywhere on here on how to adjust them. Anyone know how?

I would call headstrong directly and ask them if you can have them do that for you before they assemble it. Try to talk with Marie over there or PM her. @HeadStrong Off-Road . She will give you the info you need. You would need to compress the spring, then take the top hat off, take out the spring and then pull out the spacer notch and put it into a different setting. If they can do it for you during assembly it will make it a hell of a lot easier.

I also just purchased 6112/5160's from headstrong Offroad, and the tools to do the job. Should be fun.
