Just drove up the 18 through lucerne. It is R3. They stopped all vehicles to put chains on. Roads were not bad at all. Didnt need the chains. But with all the stuck people all over the road I can see why they are making people put them on. Probably 20 disabled, abandoned, stuck vehicles on the road. Maybe 18” of snow on the deck.

Yeah forget that lol. I’ll check again tomorrow night but might switch my plans to run up to Lytle creek instead since it’s much closer and less likely to be backed up

Lytle Creek had a ton of snow. The area around the the store about half way up got like 7 inches. Can't imagine what it looked like past the shooting range.

Hey, go for it anyway! They were plowing the main road and there were a ton of wheelers going up and down all day so I'm sure there will be help tomorrow too ;). If I wasn't heading out to Santa Barbara tomorrow I'd tag along since I didn't get to play much today, was just up in Lytle Creek today for a family visit, but needed 4Hi even to get around the neighborhood off the main road.

But yea, I'm still trying to get up there early tomorrow (saturday) morning, if I can get at least one person to join!

I just checked the roads, they're all still at R3. I'll wake up early and check them again, but if they're still at R3 in the morning, I may have to skip Saturday, since I don't have chains for my truck.

Also do you guys think people have been going out on the trails in this snow? I'm worried the trails might be too deep to get trough, but if people have been driving them and packing the snow down, that would be good.

I think the trails should be good, it's all fresh powder which is 'easy' to go through with 4wd and good tires. By easy I mean compared to the time we got stuck trying to go up White Mountain later in the season when the snow had turned to ice underneath the powder lol.

I've run those fire roads in the snow a bunch and the early snowfall days are the best time to do it. I don't think they got more than a couple feet at most at the higher elevations so it won't be bad

By trails I mean the fire roads, I wouldn't try doing any of the actual 4x4 trails unless you've got others going along too

Haha yeah sorry, I’m still down for tomorrow. I think I’m going to stay away from big bear though. Really don’t want to be sitting in traffic all day. Will probably go and check out lytle and see how it is. Worst case if it’s too deep I’ll just turn around

yah most of the fire roads should be doable. I’ve also got a strap and shovel and chains, and will probably bring some other gear for recovery as well. That’s what I’m hoping didn’t happen, get too compacted to where it starts to get icy lol

Yeah that usually happens later when it starts to melt and then another freeze comes along and so on. But since this first snow came pretty early that could happen but not by tomorrow.

We decided on just doing Rowher Flats tomorrow for our camping trip, which actually worked out well since I just learned that they closed down Gorman this weekend due to the weather.

Rowher is a fun place to wheel on occasion but definitely not my favorite place to camp...although since my 8 year old nephew and 63 year old father will be coming along its probably better we keep it local and easy.

Where's Lytle? I'm pretty open, I just want to go drive around some snowy fire roads.
