Im 100% NOT spending $300 on the suspension. I mentioned that I saw a $300 rough country lift, but I thought it wouldn’t be good. You get what you pay for. Was wondering about other options

Buy several cases of high alcohol content white liquor, non flavored, glass liter bottles. It can be used as currency, fuel, defense, medicinal and it can always be drank.

Several Ruger 10/22’s all the same (spare parts), 10,000 rounds to start.

Real Jerry cans, to be used for water and fuel.

HAM radio’s (you will need a license).

Trading goods. Forget about items like gold and bitcoin. When society breaks down they will be worthless as your 401K.

My advice is go slow. You don’t need to buy everything at once. Most of the overlanding type stuff is a waste of money IMHO.

I would buy a real nice suspension all the way around and a set of wheels and tires first. That’s about $4K give or take.

After that I would look at sliders and bumpers and a winch. Another $3K or so.

After that, get a Leer 180 and bed stiffeners.

    Then I would regear. That’s 10k.

Ignore those worried about YOUR money and how you plan to use YOUR truck. With the weight, you will want to upgrade your suspension. maybe a soft topper with an over rack for your rtt would work and save you weight. But look around, many have the setup you are considering, and plenty would be happy to tell you about suspension choices they made. Whatever you do, enjoy

Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to write that. You bring up some wonderful points.

“Bug out” is kind of the last purpose of this vehicle. Mainly it will be for road trips from LA to Alaska/around the Pacific Northwest solo or with my family. So the pop out tent was more for that purpose, just camping/road trips with the family.

I love the idea of just having one contico box in the back with the “bug out”ish stuff.

About the roof rack, you make a good point. But I’m going to use it for storing locked containers with extra clothes and supplies for the cross country trips/camping.

and great idea about the recovery gear. Knew I was forgetting something haha.

thank you again for sharing your thoughts!

I guess your house will be useless in an apocalypse?

Will there be a way to get to your investments and savings when one happens?

I don't worry about shit like that happening, but I'd feel a lot better off in my house with my "cool" stuff than out in my truck in the middle of one.
