Has anyone ever relocated their cruise control switch from the steering wheel itself, to the column? For running aftermarket steering wheels etc

All you’d have to do is unplug the clock spring and run off the dash harness.

Uh, your airbag, cruise control and your horn. The clock spring is directly connected to the dash harness.

The cruise control plugs into the bottom of the clock spring. So it is really easy to just plug your a column cruise control switch and wire it into the plug that would normally plug into the bottom of the clock spring, for the factory cruise control switch. I actually posted a couple of videos out there, when I was considering installing factory cruise control on my 96 that didn't come with it. I think you might find the videos to be helpful, in what you are considering doing. Here is a link:

You made a point, even if you didn't intend to! The plug going TO the clock spring, could not just be unplugged, as it also affects horn usage. BUT, it could be easily spliced into, using only the wires needed to connect to the switch for cruise control usage.

Not saying about leaving it unplugged. Didn't look into it much but if the cruise control runs on a separate circuit (which I'm sure it does) from the horn, than depin the cruise control wires and plug the clock spring harness back in.
