Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realize these were available on the nhtsa website. Attached is the TSB they apparently used - it 'does' include the calibration ID 8966304A7000 that my truck had before.

I was surprised by that also. I think it is a newer and very nice thing!

Well, hell. That one clearly calls out what folks in this thread need to get it done at the dealer.

    Nice work!

I definitely worded that last post incorrectly! :tinfoilhat:. I did see TSB 0013-19 on the NHTSA website. Getting ready to take the truck back in so I'll try and see if I can get anywhere this time. If not....Anyone in the Charlotte area well versed with TIS? o_O

Im having no luck on ntsha. Have a direct link or other info worded on ntsha? Im seeing 4 recalls. Nothing of what were discussing here.

Not the recall section. Do the vehicle search by make and model, not VIN. Then, click on Manufacturer Communications. Those are either TSBs or notes on assembly changes.

    Hi all,

i took my 2018 OR 6mt to the dealer for its 15k Mile service and begged the tech to plug it into tech stream because I am convinced I am having the issues described by others in this thread. But alas, they could find no updates for my vehicle.

This thread has gotten so long it’s impossible to read it all. I’ve read about 15 pages and I’m still not clear on how to get this update done.

When shifting from 1st to 2nd, my rpms will often jump well above the point where I pushed in the clutch. This makes the shift into 2nd very jerky and super aggravating.

Not sure where to go next.

Other than the 1st Post, the first 15 pages were all of us surprised about the TSB tune, finding the CUW files, and experimenting with the installation.

Some folks suggested that the TSB tune was applied on the assembly line for trucks at the end of the 2018 model run. If yours has the TSB tune, the ECU ID will be 04A71. The Carista and OBD Fusion apps will tell you. Otherwise, if you have or know someone with OVT or a Tactrix adapter, it can be checked with the OVT software or TechStream. TS can be downloaded and installed from my signature below.

If you find that your ECU ID is 04A70, then you are still on the stock tune and the update is available to install. All the info that you need is in the 1st Post.

Getting the dealer to do it is more miss than hit. Some don't trust pushing the button in TS when it tells them there is an update.

I have not hear about any ECU updates for the 2.7l. Some folks with the MT say that it could us one, but much less complaints than the 3.5l stock tunes.

All TSB PDFs can now be found on the nhtsa.gov website if you search by make and model (not VIN) and then click on Manufacturer Communications.

    Hi Guys,

Thank you for faithfully keeping this thread going. After putting OVTune 1.05B on my 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 6MT in January 2019 I have been eagerly awaiting the release of 2.0 for my 04b11 truck - until I found this forum. After reading a lot of posts and returning to the OP, I figured that since I had the Tactrix cable from OVTune that I'd give the ECM update a try. I followed all the directions, downloaded Techstream and the CUW files and went to it. The ECM flashing took a little while as I was confused and tried to go through Techstream but that only resulted in failure. By clicking on the CUW file, the updater opened and then re-programming was a breeze. I drove the truck a little bit after that and I do feel a difference in throttle control and it does seem a bit smoother all-around.

However, the next problem came up after when I went to OVTune's website and tried to flash the 04b13 file of 2.0 Beta. I downloaded the 91 octane file and loaded up P5Flash, identified the unit as a 04b13 ECM, and tried to "Flash It" with the new file. However, I only get this error message.

I sent a message to OVTune / Zendesk and am awaiting a response. Otherwise, I am looking forward to Matt releasing 2.0 sometime in December. I'll drive the truck on 04b13 in the meantime and enjoy the smoother ride. Thanks Tonered and Ruggybuggy for organizing everything and making this update available to everyone since Toyota Service Centers do not fix the really big problems with this truck. On another note, when I still had Toyota Care's 2-year service a while ago, I asked them why my Fog Light lenses are so foggy/cloudy on the inside and un-cleanable - their response was that the fog lights worked as they are supposed to. As soon as I picked my truck up from that last service appointment with Toyota for the rest of this truck's life, I found Tacomaworld's forums and the issues and solutions that are presented here have been such an eye-opener in making this truck more like the "Toyota Truck" that we all seem to know and love.

    Thanks everybody!

    You're welcome!

Sorry but your image is not coming through for me.

Make sure you downloaded the proper dongle file (pcm) or dongleless file (p5f).

I'm glad that you are enjoying the TSB tune for now.

You might also want to try the 04B13 1.05 files as a test?

So far Santa Cruz Toyota has not agreed to do the update on my 2018 MT. I showed them both 058 and 0125 TSB's, but the tech keeps telling me that they run my VIN and no updates are available. I have another appointment on Monday. They said they will need to "call Toyota". I keep asking for them to plug the ECU into TechStream and they say, "we did and your VIN shows no current TSB's available". They are obviously not plugging it into TechStream.
From what I can tell, the dealership is worried about a liability issue and will not go out of their way to dig beyond the TSB description and look at the Calibration ID's.

    You're welcome.

Yep. 04A70 is stock for 2018 MTs and 04A71 is the TSB tune.
