Thank you! And yea the truck is way nicer than anything i could have ever deserved to drive as a 20 y/o. It was my dads truck and he got promoted at his job and they ended up buying him an f150 so this one just sat. He decided i should have it and im very grateful!

    @My Name is Rahl

    Interesting article:

    https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/n...ish-studies-rare-genetic-diseases/3995625002/

To clarify something in the piece...
Amish and Old Order Mennonites are basically indistinguishable.

    But Mennonites span a spectrum.
Some, like the Amish, are very traditional...no electricity, etc. They very much dislike being dependent on the outside world.
Some have electricity, machinery and modern appliances, but try to be plain. Black cars, for instance.
Some you wouldn't know they're Mennonites unless someone told you.

They all derive from German Anabaptists.
Many came here to escape persecution in the latter 17th through the 18th centuries.

    Story time. :)

My Father's people were Brethren, also called Dunkers.
Likewise Anabaptists and fully modern. Famous for being conscientious objectors.
So it caused something of a stir when my Father joined the Army Air Force in 1942.
He met my Mom at Maxwell Field, Alabama during pilot training.
Piloted a B-24 in the 5th Air Force (Southwest Pacific Theater).
After his tour, he trained new pilots at Clovis, NM and married his sweetheart.
Went home with his new wife to the farm but stayed in the Reserves.
Got called up again for the Korean war, and my Grandparents had to keep up the farm.
He stayed state side flying a C-119 for paratrooper training and Mom and my older sister lived with him at the air base.
In 1965 my Mom couldn't deal any more with being a farm wife, so he handed over the farm to a cousin.
He eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

I always wondered why he stayed in the Church. :notsure:
The Brethren weren't into expelling people, but there was an obvious contradiction there.
Not to mention the fact that my Mom (a southern city girl), never quite fit in.
    Me either.

    Fun anecdote:

When they went home to the farm, my Mom had something of a shock straight off.
After meeting my Grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins...
She asks to be directed to the bathroom.
Aunt Emma says, sure, I'll show you, I gotta go too.
That's when Mom found out what a privy is. A fancy 2 seater out by the hog pens. :p
No running water. There was a hand pump in the kitchen sink, that's it.

That got fixed real fast. Time for modern plumbing.
