If Jason’s friend doesn't want all 4, i’d be interested in one for a burn barrel. I’ve been half assed looking on Craigslist for one but haven’t picked one up yet. Just let me know, I’ll wait and see what Jason’s friend wants/needs first, i’m not in a rush and you’re close to me.

Depends how the truck is wired.

If you went crossover, just stick them inside the doors using some 3M tacky stuff. That's all I did.

You're right that the co-ax is more drop it in and be done with it though, but it's not night and day in terms of it. If you have tweets already in the A-pillar though I wonder if you have crossovers or just the POS like the Tacoma used

I would venture to say the tweeters in the a pillar are pretty crappy. The main sound up front is being put out by the 3-3/4” center speaker as far as I can tell.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Don't do that Mike! The new tweeters are still going to need some sort of bass blocker (your factory tweeters are probably not actually tweeters but just small speakers like the Tacoma's have) and you'll only be guessing at what frequency to get and they probably wont be included with the tweeters. Plus like I said from the start putting coaxes in the front doors will only lower your front stage.
The set of Focals I sent right at the beginning is awesome because the crossovers are inline to to speakers (no separate crossovers to wire up). I would highly recommend them!

Most likely, the ones in the Tacoma aren't even "real" tweeters per se.

I'd say if you want to have some fun, get components (including crossovers)..it doesn't add much work to the job. Ease of install though, just get coax for the doors and leave the A-pillar alone.

Thanks guys, got some thinking to do... maybe a Cyber Monday impulse buy... if I do it, sounds like components are the way to go.

I would. Check the wiring on your door speakers inside the door first, but it won't be that bad to feed wire from the crossover to the A pillar (which I would do). Your main wiring goes from radio to input on crossover, then the 2 sets of outputs will go to the main driver and tweeter.

I've run this setup on both my trucks for the past 12 years, no problems.

They were sold in Japan, because I have seen JDM versions pop up for sale (I have seen people add the front fender mirrors from the ones sold in Japan), but I had no idea Toyota still made them for the middle east! I wonder where they are made now, as I thought FJs were made along side of 4Runners/Land Cruisers, etc.

You know me, I don’t mind wiring, it’s all about the time it’d take to install. Might just bite the bullet, buy components and wait until Spring to install.

For any of you that were looking for speakers but maybe haven't heard of Focal speakers before (@Pugga ,@jpereira2 ). I know they are not the brand name like Pioneer, Kenwood or Sony. They are primarily a speaker company and a very good one at tha

These are the ones that I recommend for the $$$. Speakers are supposed to really be one of those products that the trickle down theory really works.

But the do sell many others as well. Real good stuff
