Seems like all these winches are starting to look the same to me,

And there is really no great information out there about build quality and materials.
As an Electrician I'm not impressed with the info they give about these... btw series wound motors don't like to be run unloaded...
As a Mech. Eng., I can see that all of them are about 95% the same in design, and there is f'all information on materials used, so unless I start tearing apart display models there is no real easy way to spot the differences.
I think the guys at 4wparts would become suspicious if I came rattling in there with a toolbox...

Seems like steel cables only disadvantages are weight, corrosion and what may happen if it breaks. Should wear gloves when handling it....
If you oiled/greased it, it can be "set and forget".

Synthetic, swells so you have to wind it loosely on the drum, holds moisture and dirt, more expensive, abrades/cuts easier...

Seems like a crap shoot in the $500-$2000 range for winches, with the most popular ones...

Preliminary investigation shows that the $2000+ Warn systems don't seem to have any great advantage over some $600 chinese winches.

Since it's going to be hidden inside my bumper I really don't give a shit what it looks like,
since it will be a PITA to get to, will be another reason I need extra reliability for the 2-3 times a year I will be using it.

I'm going to start nosing around tow trucks and car carriers to see what they are using... those winches get used well and are neglected in the elements...

And since I have f'all experience in offroading in civilian vehicles with winches, I probably only know half of what I'm looking for...

I don't wanna end up on a calendar with a Jeep hauling me out! Heeelp

    :confused::annoyed:

Any guides you recommend checking out for an AT fluid change? i'm not expecting to do a flush.
This guy basically does a dump and fill to the same quantity but doesn't mess around with the OBD2 stuff
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM_GED07yO0

but all i hear are people saying stuff in regards of putting the truck into temp mode by jumping 2 ports in the OBD2 plug and shifting between gears for a bit till it's in temp range, and if it's over you gotta restart.
    like this guide

Hello to the group! I'm in Mississauga. Looking for leaf springs for my 2013 Tacoma. My stock leaf springs have a snapped leaf on each side... I see that 4wheelparts.ca sells the Old Man Emu ELO95R which look good...but was recommended I ask on this thread in case somebody has done an upgrade and has spare leafs lying around, thanks!

Well the springs have settled in.
The shocks are still breaking in, seem to be getting a little smoother every day, still don't even have 1000km on them yet, so a little more time.
    Still loving them!
I drive a Ram 1500 truck for work which I had thought was a smooth ride on the highway and at speed in Hamilton, lol not anymore, never noticed how much nose diving and dipping it had,
lol well maybe I do take corners a little fast...

Did a quick ground to fender lip measurement and it's about 36" within 1/8" all round. :) So that is good enough for me for "leveled"

I figure before I put the rear leafs on I'll maybe save myself some aggravation and get some center bolt collars or center bolts with a longer head to make it easier to add shims (if needed).

Also noticed an area between two leafs that will probably rub/squeak so I need to get about 6' of liner...

Ok, I will now remind you of an earlier statement...

oh, public announcement, those that wheel, clean mud behind plastic fenders. There is plenty to collect there.

I also have front (trimmed) and rear fenders, available if anyone needs spares.

I upgraded to the EL096 and after a few years it has sagged a bit. Now I do carry a lot of weight at times and perhaps they weren't really meant for that. Keep that in mind if it's something you will be doing, you might want to do some research. I am a little disappointed with them.
