Damn if I see any difference my 65 MGB has a hydraulic clutch cylinder so does my 2011 Tacoma. Fluid does not compress if any thing an accumulator just makes it smoother. And only works when you push the pedal.

this all seems to talk to different driving styles, or more particularly what each of us engages with when we drive.

as for me, the ADM provided one benefit, although it made other changes. the ADM allowed me to quickly and reliably access the bite point of the clutch. i can go right to it now.

it's also true that it lightened up the top of pedal travel, and that it has some inconsistency of pedal pressure across its range. but I don't care about any of that because i need my bite point and i need it now, period. so it has helped.

i did a return spring delete for a few months. that didn't do much of value. about to replace all this junk with the all metal FJ pedal assembly and 2008 LC MC. none of this plastic crap is worth reinvesting in.

Andddddd sold. That's all I needed to know really. Thank you!

What you described is exactly what mine feels like and it actually shifts very well now. I just wanted to make sure my pedal effort was the new normal after ADM. I appreciate it.

For what it's worth to those who haven't done the mod yet
    :

The truck most definitely shifts better in all scenarios. I'm a picky son of a bitch and sometimes I can get hung up on the details or perfection. If you're on the fence, i say do it. The mod is always reversible if you feel worried.

Curious now, what's the benefit here or the goal?

there's been discussion here & there among a few 3g MT guys about it. it has been done in a 2g truck. but not exactly like this. i may eventually put up a parts guide for it. but this is to replace all plastic with a full metal solution that won't groan, crack, break, or be stuck with play forever. the later model MCs have a plastic clevis and so thanks to parts guru Jeff Lange we got the info, which requires the MC from a 2008 Land Cruiser. i have it all ready to go, about 17-18 parts total iirc. looking like next year i guess.

i have been dialing in the drive experience details on my truck for 3 years, and this one has become the elephant in the room that just needs dealing. IMG_20191105_090446.jpg IMG_20191112_204625.jpg

Just to clarify, the accumulator only works when engaging the clutch / letting off the pedal. It tries and miserably fails at controlling the fluid flow back toward the master cylinder (negative pressure). It has no significant effect under positive pressure.

What was Toyota’s goal in fitting it? In brief summary.

What @fake4x4 said. Mainly to help newbs. The thing is that after a short while, it just becomes a hindrance and increases wear even for old timers. Having owned MTs for 25yrs and only ever replaced clutches in my dry clutch Ducati that now has 113k on it, smooth downshifts in the lower gears just sucked.

So it slows down the application of the clutch plate to the flywheel? Like a specified amount of slip?

I’m like others here, I don’t feel anything weird on my clutch... I guess I am used to it... I would love to try one of those modded clutches but without understanding or feeling the actual difference I won’t do it...

Yeah. If you look at the 1st Post in the ADM thread, you can see that it is a controlled orifice that uses a rubber gasket and a large area under vacuum to restrict flow. The problem is that the delay is time and time is wear and compromised control.

It is an easy fix though.

For me, I love to row, esp downshifts, and I like them to be smooth. I never struggled to get smooth drops into 1st while rolling except in the Taco. With the lacking engine braking, I find dropping into 1st is needed at times. After the ADM, I can now drop it smoothly into 1st up to around 30. I couldn't do that with the accumulator.

I'm convinced my clutch disengages faster now. When I upshift it's much smoother now mainly upshifting quickly between 1-2 and 2-3. Its smoother and there's less resistance felt through the stick. Its not as notchy going into gear even if I rush the shift and don't push the pedal all the way down before I'm moving the stick to the next gear.

I noticed its also easier to take off in 1st from a dead stop. Overall the truck is easier to drive and smoother than before. That's my impression after 2 days.

It was a flow restriction but not much when disengaging. Of course, everyone is different. You might be really feeling something there.

I had one of these in my S2000 , it made hard shifts easier on the trans by putting a delay on the engagement, in other words , drop the clutch , the accumulator would ease the clutch so your trans doesn’t get the shock

So happy i did my ADM, much more predictable clutch feel, that stupid thump in higher gears is gone. My pedal feels the same really.

But it creates more shock to the trans....
