Minor rear ending, stock or replacement bumper??

Well, a young lady rear ended me a few days ago and caused minor damage to my bumper. I'd be just fine with a factory bumper but given the unfortunate situation, it looks like they're going to cut me a check to have it fixed. Id like a low weight replacement bumper that isn't too overdone. I do tow a lot so I'm not sure what I do with the trailer light hook ups or license plate..... Anyone else been rear ended lightly and know round about what the fix will cost? I'll try and get a pic up of the slightly bent and scarred bumper. Thanks in advance.

 

Depending on what part of your bumper was damaged you could go with the option below. It is light weight and I was happy with fit/finish.

Take the money and get an aftermarket steel bumper

 

Disassembly was more difficult than install. I imagine you’ll encounter that with any bumper change. Removing the chrome bumper caps gave me a bit of an issue. I’d recommend searching here or YouTube.

 

Have your accident assessed for a damage estimate - I was rear ended as well and received a $1,600 payout.

And, yes, steel booty ftw.

 

I did some damage to my plastic bumper backing into a tree. Eventually went steel aftermarket bumpers all the way around.

 

I'd get it to a good body shop, it's not uncommon for an insurance company to cut a smaller check to start the job, and they'll pay out more to finish, after the job is started. If you want aftermarket, ask your body shop, many will let you use the funds for the OEM.
